Tho Wailuku Public School observ
ed Arbor Day, Nov. 3 by making a
jpfjinnlnn toward benutlfyinn tho
school Grounds. Since we have oc-
upled tho new school house our work
mo has been devoted to cleaning the
rounds of brush, weeds anq stones,
nd to cleaning away tho thicket of
aninl and koa that dlsflguscd tho
ront, both inside and outside of tho
fence. It is planned to jolir tho two
ntranccs by a semicircular drivoor
avenuo passing Uie main entrance
The avenuo will bo bordored with
royal palms, and a row of palms was
planted on Friday along the front of
tho grounds. Tho slmcircle botween
tills row of palms and those of tho
avenue will bo devoted to llowcr
gavdous. The sorubly eucalyptus now
thero will gradually bo removed.
No School in the Territory has
grounds so well adapted to land
scape gardening as ours; and it is tho
intention of Principal Copoland to
mako them a place of which Wailuku
will bo proud.
On Friday tho cxccreiscs were held
o ntho grounds and consisted of songs,
eadings and declamations appropri
alo to tho occasion. Lack of tho
fivo rooms of the school planted two
trees, tho care of which devolvo up
on tli3 class which planted it. This
plan was suggested by Governor
Carter. Invitations painted by tho
pupils were sent out to parents and
friends and a good number responded
and wore present.

Tenncy said a card index system
