HONOLULU, November 16. The crop nf 1909 is a record breaker
for the sugar planters of Hawaii.
Irwin ws elected president of the Sugar Planters' Association.
Atkinson and I'erelstrous left yesterday for Harbin. They will

WASHINGTON. November 16. Secretary Knox has said the
Japanese- Chinese treaty is not a violation of the open door policy in
China but he does not deny that r protest has been made.
SAN FRANCISCO, November 16. Delara, the Mexican revolu
tionist arrested as an anarchist in Los Angeles, has been released by
order of the Federal authorities at Washington.
WASHINGTON, November 16. For the first time in the history
of the American judiciary the Supreme Court has ruled on an appeal
from a sentence for contempt of court in lower court. It was the case
of a Tennessee sheriff and jailor who allowed a negro to be taken from
a jail and lynched.
CHKRRY, 111.. November 16. Asa result of a mining accident
there are 200 widows and one thousand orphan children here.
SAN FRANCISCO, November 16. Heney has been reappointed
and will go to Oregon to prosecute cases.
The Calhoun case will wait.
WASHINGTON, November 16. Ballinger assures Conkling of his
friendship for Hawaii.
HONOLULU, November 15. The Marie Hackfeld carried a valu
able cargo of general merchandise for this port.
There is a rumor that the Toyo Risen Kisba line lias had a break
with the Pacilic Mail ami that Honolulu maybe cut out of the service.
HONOLULU, November 14. Osaki and C. Robinson are under
arrest for selling adulterated booze.
During the week efforts will be made by the Kahuku wireless
station to communicate with the Japanese wireless station.
CHERRY, 111., November 15. The loss of life in the mine ex
plosion will reach 400. None of the bodies have been recovered.
BUENOS, Ay res, November 15. The Chief of Police and his
Secretary have been assassinated by a Russian anarchist who threw a
bomb.
CHERRY, III., November 14. One of the worst coal mine dis
asters in the history of America occurred here toduy. More than 300
men fought in the galleries and none have escaped. Great volumes of
smoke are rolling from the mouth of the mine and it is impossible to
do anything to succor the imprisoned men.
CAIRO, 111., November 14. The city is quiet and the mob is
despersed. All but three companies of the militia are leaving.
SaN FRANCISCO, November 14. Twenty thousand persons saw
Stanford lose to Berkeley yesterdav. The score was 19 to 13.
ST. LOUIS, November 14. Brandenburg who kidnapped his step
son has been fined .$500.
PARIS. November 14. Mailam Steinhill has been acquitted of
the charge of murder and has been released.
CUXIIAVEX, November 14. The worst storm in years is raging
in the North Sea. The Marie Hackfeld bound for Honolulu was caught
in the gale and is a total loss. The oflicers and crew are saved.
HONOLULU, November 13 The planters are considering the
resolution for the increase in pay of the Japanese laborers.
Utichiyama was found guilty of sending obscene matter through
the mail.
White merchants have been asked to keep their stores open in the
evening to accommodate the military trade.
The tobacco crop brought from 11.90 to $2.10 per pound. It will
be shipped on the Lurline Tuesday.
A special Tokio cable afiirma the fact of the American protest
against the Japanese-Chinese treaty. The United States accepted
the explanation of Japan and has agreed to postpone negotiations un
til the arrival of the new minister in Washington.
SPOKANE, November 13. Fifty two of the imprisoned strikers
have yielded and will eat what has been offered.
WASHINGTON, November 13 More than $27,000,000 has been
asked for the improvement of rivers and harbors for the Pacific Coast
ami' Hawaii.
DENVER. November 13. Mrs. Read alleged kidnapper who
fainttd in court yesterday while being tried for her crime is reported
better today.
NEW YORK, November 13. James Yondeinagel, the superinten
dent of the American Sugar Refining Co., and six other employees
have been arrested on a charge of conspiracy to defraud the United
States.
KINGSTON, Jamaica, November 13. The island did not suffer
from earthquake but from a severe storm There are many vessels
ashore.
