Interesting arguments upholding
the use of the supernatural on the
screen and in drama are offered by
Atnes Ay res, Paul Powell and Milton
Sills, respectively star, director and
leading man of ''Borderland." Miss
Ayres' new Paramount picture which
is said to utilize psychic phenomena
as an integral fer.'ure of the plot.
"It's not necessary to believe in
'ghosts' to enjoy such a story," says
Miss Ayres. "Whether or not you
believe ttiat the dead can communi
cate with the living, cannot Interfere
with your enjoyment of what might
happen were it possible for souls pass
ed on lo warn the living against mak
ing mistakes."
"The fanciful will always attract,"
insists Milton Sills, leading man. "I
know two great scientists who do not
believe in spirits, but whose favorite
plays are respect ivejy 'Llliom' and
'Peter Pan,' two of the most success
ful stories using the supernatural for
dramatic purposes."
"The success of the supernatural
in drama," says Director Powell,
"cannot be disputed with such box
office triumphs as 'The Return of
Peter Grimm,' 'Earthbound,' 'The
Tempest' and 'Peter Pan.'"
It is said that "Borderland," which
next Saturday, will attract patronage
noi only because of its novelty but
because of its plot. An excellent cast
includes Millon Sills, Casson Fergu
son and Bertram Grassby.

PRISCILLA DEAN
The thread of romance that carries
the interest through the plot of "Wild
Honey" the Universal-Jewel attraction
at Maui theatres is based on the in
dependence of spirit, of Lady Vivien
ne, the English lady of rank who is
the heroine of Cynthia Stockley's
novel, from which tha picture was
filmed. Priscilla Dean portrays the
character.
Mow many women would brave the
dangers of a trip through the barren
spaces of the Transvaal, alone and
unacquainted with the nature of the
country and its people? Lady "Viv"
does it for the sake of looking up the
land which represents the only
wealth she posseses, and which every
one says isn't worth the paper on
which the deed is printed.
An independent spirit in a woman
is one thing men always admire un
til they get better acquainted with it.
But if can lead to happiness, for the
woman who has an indomitable spirit
is sometimes the more easily domi
nated by "the right man."
"The right man'; in "Wild Honey"
is impersonated by Robert Ellis.
Noah and Wallace Beery enact the
chief roles of "villainish" hue. Other
players are Lloyd Whitlock, Raymond
Iilathwayt, Helen Raymond, Harry
DeRoy, Carl Stockdale, C. J. Frank
and Landers Stevens.
Wesley Ruggles directed the picture.

at times had fourteen directors assist
