( 'urri}>ipi>ndcnc3 of the Gazette. Smyrna, Del. August.21, 1874. After much talk and many speculations as to who would be the victorious party in the first game between Siny M'lford, the question was decided in favor of Oie Smyrna nine, on the 20th and St. Thu game was played on the grounds of tin* Smyrna club and play xvai called at 2.30 1*. Al., with the Milford boys at the bat. The game throughout was one of the most closely contested and exciting, that have been played in Smyrna for a long time, and neither side could feel con fident of victory, as the score will show, until the close of the game. The plays worthy of mention are those of Voshell on second base, the one hand catch of Jefferson and a difficult fly catch by Golt, for the Smyrnas; a difficult running catch •y Morris and Gorby.each, and the plays of Samuioiids, catcher, were noticeable for Milford. T want to give tlio oiact manner in which the meeting, "endorsed" Every Evensng, as 1 looked in vain for it in the Report of the meeting as published in that paper last night. In the first place the remarks of our chairman resenting the insults offered to the workingmen of the city by Every Evening were loudly applauded, and in •h a general manner doubt that there were but few in the room, who d»d not heartily agree with the sentiments expressed. This was the first "endorsement." Again: When the committee to petit ion the City Council was appointed, some one in the audience assigned li. (4. Cam eron, junior proprietor of Every Evening a position upon said committee which he accepted. But this action was not at all pleasing to the meeting and the liall resounded with cries of "Put him out," "Down with Cameron," "He's no working man," Ac. Even the proverbialCameron cheek i lie; manifestation of disapproval, and the of fensive committee man would have left the stand, had not the chairman prevail ed upon him to remain. This was the second "endorsement." Mr. Editor, while the workingmen of this city are opposed to the "City Kinfc," they are equally opposed to Hupjx»rtiug 1 lie "Every Eveningllüïorm King." Within the ranks of the Democratic party alone lies the 5 ** msiuance of economical gov ernment, and they are fast discovering Workingman. For the Gazelle.
