INFORMATION AND ESTIMATES OF THK CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATIC COM MITTEE. Washington, Sept. 1G.—The Con gressional Democratic Committee here, who are engaged ia distributing politi cal information, documents, and speeches, keep up a constant and very extensive correspondence with all parts of the country, and necessarily seek to be well informed as to be the prospect of the Presidential election. Great pains have been taken to form a sound judgment, by seeking facts in detail through the local organizations, dis carding enthusiastic reports, and rejec ing loose estimates of supposed strength. Entire confidence in the election of Gov. Tilden is felt, and unless all the signs should prove false, or aa unex pected reaction occur, bis majority in the Sectoral College will surprise some of his friends as much as his most pronounced opponents, drift of public opinion is favorable, and if the October States do not disap point expectation the Presidential con test will virtually end with the election oftbat plain and honest farmer, "Blue Jeans" Willisms, as Governor of In diana. The figures to work out the general result arc as follows: For Haye». The tor Tilden, Alabama.. Arkansas California. Conecticut. Delaware. Florida . . Georgia. Indiana. Kentucky. Maryland. Mississippi. 8 Pennsylvania Missouri. 15 Rhode Island New York. 35S. Carolina.... N. Carolina. 10 Vermont.. New Jersey Oregon. Tennessee.12 Texas. Virginia. West Virginia ^Illinois. G ; Iowa... G Kadsas. 6 Maine. 31 Massachusetts 4'Michigan. 11; Minnesota. 5 15, Nebraska. 121 Nevada. 8 N. Hampshire 21 11 7 13 n : 3 5 2« 1 . 7 0 3 Total .129 Doubtfvl. 8 Colorado... 111 Louisiana. 5 0hio. —1 Wisconsin ;; 22 10 Total.197 Total.43 According to these figures Tilden would have twelve votes to spare, and Hayes would require fifty six to elect. Conceding to him the four States classified as doubtful.he would still be short thirteen votes. Where are they to come from is a question which the Republican managers have not been able to answer to their own satisfac tion. The most interesting points at this time are Indiana and Ohio. No doubt is entertained by the Congression Democratic Committee as to a decid» ed majority in Indiana for Williams. The estimates generally agree upon 15,000, though there may be a margin of 5,000 cither way. At the outset of the canvass the Democrats did not count upon Ohio at all as one of the necessary elements to elect. Previous distractions on the currency has wrought bad feeling and divisions. Now they are united neartily.and the Republicans are giving grounl in the manufacturing counties. The Ger mans are substantially united for Til den in the cities ana towns where they are mostly found in large num bers. They have castoff Sehurz as a leader—at least for this occassion. The reports are encouraging, and the re sult will be close ; but the State is put down as doubtful. Wisconsin is included in the doubt ful list, though the accessions to Til den are numerous, and the Cermans are zealous in bis support. The ac counts from there claim the State for the Democrats decisively. No fear is entertained of the votes of Florida, North Carolina, or MLj sissippi, which the Republicans have treated as uncertain. North Carolina will give Tilden not less than ten thousand majority, and it may reach double that number. Peace prevails in Florida and Mississippi, and that is the best assurance of a Democratic victory ia the both States. Hut for the corrupt Returning Hoard in Louisiana, no doubt of any kind would be admitted in regard to that State. If frauds can control the vote, and the vote is essential, they will be perpetrated. Hut the belief isgeneral that the Democratic majority will be so overwhelming that the managers will not venture upon this experiment. Colorado is claimed by both parties, but as it is about to emerge from a Territorial condition, the Federal patronage becomes an important factor in determing the result, and will be used without scruple; in view es pecially of two new Senators. No serious attention is giveu by the Democratic Committee to the paper reports about West Virginia, which originate with the Republicans That State is booked for, eight or ten : thousand for Tilden. Wnile no claim has been made for , South Carolina it is known that the colored defection is large enough to justify great expectations; .andthe re cent local elections prove that iu spite of threats and violence by the Repub lican leaders many blacks are separat iDgfrom the fold joining Tilden clubs and voting the Democratic ticket. This is the view of the situation ta ken here by the most prudent hers of the Congressional Democratic Committee, though some of them make much larger estimates, and include States tha are usually conceded to Hayes. If October election favor Tilden to file extent anticipated, a stampede may be looketl for among the Repub licans, which cannot be arrested by any artful management. A decided Democratic victory in Indian, though success may easily be achieved with out it, would be the signal for a still grander triumph in November news . aur at _ con men are The Peace Commission's Council at Ped Cloud Agency yesterday was a failure. No Sioux attended. The Arrapahoes were there, but would do nothing till the bioux were heard from. As to-morrow is the day for issuing rations the Commisson instructed to suspend the issue, so as to bring the Bioux to the Council. The Thronged City. •TANGERS FLOCKING IN BY TENS OF THOUSANDS FROM ALL QUARTERS. A crowded city. That is tlio conitiou of the city to-day. The immense number of strangers here now far exceods the 4th of July numbers, streets ono surging mass of humanity. Sidewalks were simply impassible, except in the direction the crowd was moving. Rapid pedestrianism could only be indulged in on the side streets. While many hotels were crowded their utmost capaci ty it must not bo inferred that all the hotels and boarding houses are full, as there is ample room for more guests, but the great difficul ty with strangers is, they always rush to the very heart of the city, and the result naturally is tho com plete filling of the hotels in the vi cinity. Whereas, if thoy would seek accommodations a very little remote they would find ample and pleasant places. The number of strangers at present in |,the city is estimated at two hundred thou sand, of which about fifty thousand are supposed to ho Odd Fellows and their families. That this esti mate is nearly corrct will be per ceived from the following table of arrivals up to midnight for yester day only: On the Pennsylvania Railroad the New York excursion train brought about l,800;the regu lar trains about 4,500; regular trains from Pittsburg and the Northwest, fully 8,000; one excur sion train of fifteen continuous sec tions, 7,200 from Pittsburg, 4,000 people were to leave Pittsburg 3.000 from Tyrone, not included in the above numbers, to arrive later an excursion from Pittsburg of 2,300 is included in the above numbers. It is supposed there are 0,000 Pittsburg and Allegheny vis itors in our midst now. An ex cursion from Westmoreland coun ty,numbering over 000, tho largest that over left Westmoreland; fully 4.000 from Washinton and Balti more; 77 cars, or 3,880 persons, passed Reading up to II o'clock yesterday morning, and fully that number up to midnight; 50 cars, or 2,500, in the same time on the Perkiomcn branch. At this same ratio there has since arrived on both branches fully 7,000 more. The above will give but a faint idea as to tlio total number in the city, as the Odd Fellows began coming on last Saturday, and every day, in fact, every train has been load ed with them. Tho increased at tendance at the Centennial is *au evidence. Chesnut ami Broad were last evening The Republicans, after howling themselvgs hoarse over the Hamburg tragedy, have wisely concluded to post pone the tiais until after the election. The Republicans have found out that, like some other matters, the more they stir it the more it smells, and hence have concluded to put it off till a more convenient seasou. Shrewd boys'.
