Wells, Blackbird. by than The People Strengthen the IIan i».s of the Democrats in Con orehs.—T he DemtNTaU ill Ohio lose tlieir hold of the local- offices ; but the people send eleven Democrats to the next Congre» instead of eiylU, the number in the present House. It is likely that thir teen Democrats were honestly elected, and would have been returned had it not been for the interference of the Radi cal U. S. Marshals and Supen isors. As it is, the gain to the Democratic House is a change of six in our favor, ami prows conclusively that the people of Ohio aie in favor of Economy and Reform in tin* National government as proposed by the Democrats in the House in their ertbrts in the last several sessions. The election of so many Democratic Congressmen in 'here all the local offices were turned over to the • Republicans is a re markable thing ; and prove« clearly that there was great discrimination; and the defeat of the Democrats for local of ficers was no doubt brought about through the influence of liquoi laws and other local agencies that caused great dissatisfaction with the Democrats ; per haps it was throng!I the pooling of the votes of the temjK'rauce people ; or the anti-temperance people or Greenhackerb with the Republicans, as hits been at tempted in this city and county. The New York World, of to-day, says :—"Later returns from Tuesday's elections are-much more favorable to the Democrats than were the earlier ones. In Ohio they have secured 11 of 20 Con gressmen, the Thirteenth District being close. In Indiana tlieir plurality is !(», •>U0, and they have elected six Congress men,not counting De La Matyr, lnd., ami probably one or two mon*. In Iowa the Republicans have probably lost one seat —perhaps two. It will be seen that we were right yes terday, when we asked our friends to await further returns. It now turns out t liai the Democrats have made tremen dous gains in the very places where they needed to gain. We have secured the votes of Indiana and Ohio, should the election of the next President go to the House, aud we have gained in Congress men, 3 in Ohio, 4 in Indiana, 1 and per haps 2 in Iowa, making eight or nine; and lose none in either of these States. In Indiana the Legislature will have a Democratic majority on joint ballot of seven or eight, thus securing the return of Mr. Voorhees or some other Demo cratic Senator. * The fact that in all these »States the people have stood by the Democrats and strengthened their hands in Congress in opposition to sueh immense monied monopolies, is a matter for great rejoic ing; and there is no need of the Demo crats fearing defeat by the party tliat has sanctioned and boasted of the great fraud of stealing the Presidency, if they will only do tlieir duty in Congress and legis late so as to reduce expenses and taxa tion. issue was G ford b.at day as 000. by er» Of A Republican County Ticket« The Republican County Executive Com mittee met in tills city yesterday after noon, and fixed up a ticket to be voted for in November. They assumed the t iglit to appoint candidates for the Legis lature and Levy Court, without consult ing the voters in any of the election dis tricts. But this i» their business, not ours. Of course they do not expect to elect any one ; but they may raise a little money by this means to help secure a few more votes for the candidates for .Sheriff aud Coroner on their ticket. We doubt, however, if their voters or the can didates will bleed very freely. The Republican'» rooster yesterday | looked like some jiale, sickly tiling tliat, : knew it was out up for a deception. It 1 ' ' . . r nl |„ would have been bad enongtsiu *1 Ohio HeDUbliean paper to have crow ed ove* " .. ... ,1. thvir local success in the lace oi tlie uv* '-«< their Congressmeti met with ; but it was lathe worst taste fora Delaware \\ day one !i S Republican paper to appropriate a Dein ocratic emblem for such a purpose. Why did you not look lip an ''Old coon. would it remind you too much of your brother coons ? As the November elections draw near the Administration is engaged in prepar ing and sending out for publication, der the guise of news items, various campaign documenta, in the shape of statements in regard to the increase of the Revenues during the year,, the economy w hich rules in every Government Bureau the efficiency of the Civil Service, &c., si) of which furnishes the Republican stump orator with material for laudation of his party. The Santa Cbvz Negro Rebel lion must have been pretty formidable. l*rivate advices an* to the eflect that the destruction of property is far larger than reported in our dispatches. Eight or ten miles of country have been ravaged, and upwards of one hundred plantations burned. _ _ Hon. Ben. Hill's denunciation of the great fraud, published in the Gazette to day, will be read with pleasure by all good men whs depise wrong. We agree with the New York Herald in its asser tion that it is not at all too severe those who are connected with the fraud. o 814 1 2A en L. the the by the BS ■ Divided and Uealen. From the Rea*ling Edgle. present returns it appears that Ohio ha« elected the Republican ticket by a plurality of votes; that is to say, the Republican State ticket has more votes than either of the others. The main Fl In a of on issue yesterday in Ohio aud other States was the money question. In 1875 the money question was the issue also in Ohio. William Allen represented the united forces made up of Democrats and G reenhackers. Agaiust him was Ruther ford B. Hayes, the candidate of the Re publicans and hard money men, natioual banks and specie resumptiouists. Hayes b.at Allen by about 0.000 vous. Y*kter day the soft money men in Ohio were divided between Democrats aud Green backers, au 1 the. gold weu, natioual banks and specie resumptiouists were united. The result, »f further dispatches confirm what we have at this writing, snows that instead of the gold men, na tional bankers and specie resumptiouists being in a majority of about 0,000 votes, as they were in 1875, they are in a large minority—anywhere ln»ui 20,000 to 5u, 000. Jt is apparent, therefore, fioai pre sent returns tliat had the Democrats aud Greenbacker* h. en united in Ohio yes terday, they would have swept the State .ty. Mi by an inn •use majority. Cannot lie Del •rats and G re ckersii L«yl vania gather wisdom from the election iu Ohio*.' The Democrats and Greenback er» must not suppose the gold men. na tional hankers and specie resumptiouists fools, aud k about. If you do y taken. In Ohio Greenbackers should have uuited on one ticket and not divided their force». not what they are will be greatly mis the Detuucra's and Aiming at substantially the same system Of finance, probably they w from uniting by the machinations of the gold meu, national hankers and species resuuipttouist. Divide aud conquer, is not only tamiliar to military operations, but applies t,o political matter» also. Had the Democracy in 18U0 not attempted to run two caud.dates for President, the Republicans w their candidate. Had not the Greeu backers and Democrats run two ticket« in Ohio yesterday, but uuited on one. the victory would nave been theirs. Now, cannot the Democrat* aud Greenhaekers of Pennsylvania draw a moral from this reasoning .' To he sure the Democrats may even prevented not have elected •in in this .State hy a plurality, or . majority, of vote«, and so may the Greenbackers; hut to make succès» stir«* beyoud all doubt, the Greenbackers aud Deiuuciat« should unite. Last year the Democrats in Pennsyl vania elected their State ticket by a plurality of about »1,000 votes. T piuraniy ui about «»,000 votes. The Greenbackers polled about 53,000 votes. Adding the voies of the Greeubackera aud Democrats together iu this State, aud there was last year a majority of about 60,000 against the Republican ticket. Geu. Hoyt, the Republican candid «te for Governor, says that the Greenback vote iu Pennsylvania will beat.least 150,000. If such is the fact, from which of the two parlies will this vot he most largely drawn Will the Republicans suffer more than the Republicans ? This is the important question. Ohio's election shows that the De most in that State. -•rats have »uttered Here in Berks, matter» now »turn!, the Democrats will bs hurt more than the Republicans. 13ARGA1N8 -AT Tliomaw M. Wier's.
