We print an interesting and valuable Interview with President Green, of the Western Union Company—interesting because Dr. Green expresses with great emphasis the opinion held by all honor able men respecting the sanctity of tele grams, and valuable because it gives in formation which exonerates the Western Union Company ami its late president from blame in the publicity which has been to the cipher dispatches. President Orton and the directors held out as long as they could against the Hubjmna of the »Senate. They at onetime contemplated burning the despatches to avoid compli ance, hut their counsel, Judge Porter, advised against this course, and they yielded at last under Congressional duress. A huge iron-hooped Saratoga trunk was sent to Washington containing nearly thirty thousand telegrams, and delivered through Mr. Whitney, their agent, to the Senate Committee. Six or seven weeks later the trunk w as ret urned with (as the company supposed) the same contents. President Green thinks that the cipher despatches were copied or stolen while in possession of.the commit- . tee.
