Rumors were current on the street yesterday to the effect that Evan Rice, Cashier of the Na ional Hank of Wil mington and Brandywine, had not been at his post of duty for two days, and various speculations were occasioned in consequence thereof, it soon transpired that Mr. Rice Was confined to his bed by illness, and that his absence from the cashier's desk was further enforced by the fact tha the dis overy had been made that he was a defaulter of the hank's funds to an extent not as yet ascertained hut not supposed to he over $20,000.
