The day had b en glo my,ami as night drew on a thin rain tel , which i a about midnight to a smart show» r.— Mr. Ji< II was about retiring, when the clear tones of the door-bell rang through building. Mr. K II opened the door and stepped out into the corridor. At that moment, as he glanced down Ihe stairway, he saw the housekeeper inov Theu he heard to i- pose, and there, it Pht cd , ; "" am tlia mg t h«r set the small lamp she carried table, and open the holts of the door.— Turn a dreadful and prolonged shriek followed, and at the same moment Mr. Hell's butler ran al ng the hall towards the front door. I'tr* rly bewildered and confounded Mr. Hell has eneU downs airs. The sight that met his gaze when he re,.died the centre of tue hall almost troze his blood. There stood the figure of his wife in tier grave clothes, leaning against the pillar of the door, with one hand thrown across her breast. "Julia, my datling, my wife!" Mr. Bell examined, and stepped towards the ligure. Il made a movement towards him, and the next instant it w as eniolde i iu iiis arms. For a short time after her supposed d atli she was awaie of all that went on aro.<nd her, but bolore she was placed in the cofliu she lost all con id that the first sensa tion of consc.ousness she had was one of pain. Then she saw an indistinct glim mer. With a |M>werful ellbrt she rose and saw a woman standing hy her side. The woman shrieked and tied, and then Mrs. Hell discovered that sh« was lying in a eotliu in the fumily vault. She rapidly «-gained fier health, aud lived to a good old age. Next day the lamp was found extin guislied on the Jl or «J the vault. It was identified its one which usually stood iu the vestry, and was used hy the sexton. It had doubtless been removed at the same time when the key of the vault .was taken. Beyond that all was mys tery. Mrs. Bell was buried *ith her valuable diamond ring on her linger. The design had been to steal this from the NUppot>e<i corpse. Finding it impossible to remove ir, the dar.ng thief haJ raised the hand of the dead woman to her mouth, and in her attempt to withdraw rz the ring with her teeth caused the which went through the frame « victim of a trance, ami aroused her to consciousness. On the finger, just below the ring, marks of teeth wore distinctly visible lor several days after M*s. Bell's resuscitation. Soon after this extraordinary occur rence the vicar of the parish resigned his living and removed his family to Eng land. Several years passed away, aud tin* incident!» herein recorded were al most forgotten. Mrs. Bell's lather died i. Bell ami bis family quitted K;I mar«* and took up their residence atTox teih, near Liverpool. And now for the sequel. During the Chartist riots in 1840,James was arrested for murder aud lodg ed in Lancashire Jail. He was tried, conv.oted and sentenced to be hanged. Before the last sentence of the law was executed he made a confession of many crimes, aud among the rest of his ex ploirs, as profe>slonal body-snatcher, in which business lie had been engaged for many Years. The following facts are taken from his confession : aud M Hi In Julv, 1820, he wan living in Belfast, having fled from England to escape pun ishment for his offenses. He had done several small jobs in Belfast for the doc tors, and oil tue night of July 20, in the year named, a well-known physician of Belfast, sent for hint, and told him that he had a very delicate piece of work for him t«» perform. A Mrs. Bell, a lady of great beauty, and the wile of a rich pro prietor, hail just died suddenly, and the doctor and his associates desired the hody to investigate the cause of death. The doctor uaid him so much money down, and despatched h'm to JLtlmare with such instructions as were uecessary. At midnight he went to the church- ! yard armed with a wrench, a pair of shears, aud a pick-lock. The night was dark, and rain wsts falling. Creeping up by the side of the church, he approached the tomb or the Bell family. To his siir prlse, lie saw that the door was open and burning inside.
