FATAL^FLIKTING. A Duel to the Death Between Rival Lover». Auousta, Kv., Oct. 15.—This afternoon at 4 o'clock George Cooper of (iermantow n ahot George Insco of Robertson eouuty, dead, on the Germantown fair grounds. The two had been rivals for the hand of Mrs. Cooper before she had become Cooper's wile. Yesterday Insco promenaded with Mrs. Cooper on the Germantown fair grounds. Cooper ivas displeused and suhl so, Doth to hi« wife and Insco. This afternoon Insco ami Mrs. Cooper were promenading again, when Cooper met them. Both point blank almost simultaneously, husband'» tirst shot had fatal effect ami the Victim fell at Mrs. Cooper's feet. Three of the shots took effect on Insco, one in the hand and two iu the head, causing Immediate death. Des Moines, I a., Oct. 15.—An attempt was made last night to rob the United States mail whieh is carried from this city to Wood ward, Dallas county, by Mr. K. Perry. The mail carrier had reach«*d a lane near Sny der's Point, about N o'clock, when two men emerged Irora either side of the road and seize«] his horse, while a third seized him by the collar. Mr. Perry grasped a monkey-wrench in the buggy ami dealt the tnau a blow which caused him to release his hold. At this point one of the men who held th«* horses stepped back and tired a shot at the carrier, the ball going through his liât und the powder singeing his hair.
