= SECOND EDITION for the tes £=. DELAWARE FACTORIES The Row Over the Milford Post Office. MAJ. LOFLAND'S CANDIDATE ▲ I. II. —1 a. p. - MILFORD POST OFFICE. Quite a Contention Among the Republi cans—Five Applicants. The Milford Chronicle of to-day says there Is quite a deal of contention over the post office there. The present incumbeut, Mr. Herring, goes out December 14. D. N. Van Zandt Is one applicant, and is backed by Major Jim Lofland. K. A. Stewart, ts another, and there is no reason why Mr. Herring should not want to hold on. Tol bert Betts has another petition, aud before January 1st probably two or three more will pe circulating. Up to the hour of writing there are but five aspirants who have confidence enough In their own popu larity to ask for public endorsement. Mr. Herring went into the office nine years ago, with quite as little ostensible claim through party or public services as those who now seek to fill his chair. The drill of nine years has acquainted him well with the routine duties of his position, and under ordinary circumstances, in business life, his efficiency would guarantee his re tention. But that Civil Service Reform of which theorists like to descant, is more popular with the people when appointments to office are atar oil*, or when it mav save their ox from being gored. 1). N. Vl_ Zandt bases his claims upon his capability, aud the fact that his petition is headed by the signature of the Just Republican Con gressman from Deluware. Reuben A. Stewart buses his claims upon the fact that he has signatures of more cit izens thun all the rest combined. Tolbert Betts, bases his claims upon services ren dered to the people, especially in the last campaign, when both he and his teams were always ready to convince Sussex county that it ought to yield to the mild away of the State (.-entrai Committee. But persons who think they can see be hind the scenes say that James B. Anderson lain favor with the appointing power, that the "dark horse" will walk from the office of Internal Revenue into the post office. The p >-it!on pays a salary of $1,400. The office did a business last year of over $100, 000. The appointee will need give bonds men :u the sum of about $20,000. BEST FITTING GARMENTS. It is conceded that the best fitting Clothing is sold by the Wilmington Clothing House, Fourth and Market streets, and this fall we have tried to perfect ever)' garment, and to day we assert that our garments have no superior as to fit, while our former patrons can attest to the quality. Just stop in and try one of our suits or an overcoat, and you will then know they are better fitting than most of the custom work that is made at a very low price. We make this statement, although wo make to order suits as low as Eighteen Hollars, but more of our custom work is from Thirty to Fifty Dollars a suit ; because wo are having the finest work in our city, and our customers are the best dressed people on the street. Just stop long enough to look at our suits and overcoats, and we have no doubt you will say ns others have : "It is a pleasure to know we can find such fine goods at such low prices in our citv." Look at our TEN DOLLAR SUITS and our FIFTEEN DOLLAR OVERCOAT; these arc special bargains. Jno. W. Dif.fendorf & Co. Fourth and Market Sts. K VST SIXTH STREET IS THF.
