The disease has not yet made its appear ance in Wilmington, and we earnestly hope It will not come amoug us, but its proximi y ahould impress our people with the neces sity of using every known preevutfon against Its insidious approach. In an epidemic form, as it now afilicu Philadelphia, It is more ter rible than small-pox and more destructive lu its results. It strikes at the children of the household with a relentless hand, and frequently remains iu families until the last victim met umbs to its fatal graap. We Lave no desire to ueedleealy alarm the csimmunity, but deem it proper to put the people ou their guard. A pleasant piece of office furniture, and for that matter, of furniture for the library at home, of a business man, at least of a man who is accus tomed to let his thinking run beyond the bounds of his going, is a globe ; a map globe; a globe map. It may cost $75, or it may cost almost any sum less, down to even $1.50. A $1.50 globe is a very good paper-weight; and very appro priate, too. The old-style merchant, whose ships were upon distant seas, kept up a certain imaginary communication with the other sides of the world by keeping a globe as a familiar object. Hav'n't more of us a like need 1 How ignoraut we are of regions we have never haj) pened to be in, unless we have had a map in sight ! The best populat globes ex tant are made by A. II. We should not be surprised if many of these beautiful and accurate globes were among the most significant of gifts, this Christmas. Baaemcul H 11.
