SECOND EDITION A of ot 8 ot THE SANDERS TROUBLE A Sad Suicide at Kennett Square, Pa. FRAYNE PASSES THROUGH THE SANDEBS CASE. Continuation of the Trial To-day.-Evi dence In Behalf or the Defendant. [Continued from ir*t edition.} Do not know to whom goods sent to Ilenry L. Sanders, were billed: Berths left store about two weeks before she ried, and did not return to »tore as un owner ploye aftei wards. Mrs. 8anders took several of the best table cloths, hosiery and One ruche for the neck. A close examination followed as to the value of the goods bought, which included six pairs of gents' socks at »I cents a pair and two yards of ruehing at 75 cents a yard. Witness hud bought, through her mother, at the sale, some dress goods aud flannel. Considerable dispute occurred between counsel, and upon Mr. Spruauce conclud ing bis testimony, Justice Wodten ex claimed : "Call another." Mr. Lore in terrupted with s question, whereupon the Justice laughingly turned to the witness and remaiked »otte voce. "You had be ter get »way pretty soon, or yo t can't get away at all." Maria McMakin, sworn: Was employed in Sanders' store from March, 1878, to June 1. 187V; was employed by James A. Sanders; remember the levy of Sheriff Pyle, and wa* at the store oa the day of the sale; came to »lore as usual with Miss Hickey anti Wa ter told us not to tMke curtains covering the goods down; James A. Handers told us to go to his house as Ills wife wanted to see us: we went Lut found no one who wanted were scut for in about an hour and a half to come back to ihe store, as Mr. Sanders wanted us. Charles Sanders told us at the store door to go home and com« the next day. Two or three days before the sale Mr. Sander- told the clerks to sell the goods loi almost any price, and If possible we were not I«; left the store about Juhel. 1870, Saturday; mentioned to Bertha that 1 was going to leav«*; site asked if I bad told her father ; I suid no, I am going to do it he was out front buyiug and selling ; to him aud said I was going to have; he asked wbat for and l said we are going to start a store aud I would slay my length of time necessary for a notice ; he said if 1 went at all could at once, aud w bought and unusual quautitv ofgoods before the sale, sufficient to cause talk among clerk» : couldn't tell exactly what goods. The examination of the witness was in substance the same as that of tin- pm-ceding witness, an was merely cumulative testi mony. Mil.fain Ellenger, sworn : Now clerk for William B. Sharp; was with Jaulen A. Sander» at 218 Market street, as errand boy, also at Seventh and Market.; until the last Sh riff's sale; was there u> clerk aud errand boy ; on dav of sale James A. Mr. Lc r* a*ked what became of the books of the business alter the Sheriff's sale by Claik. .Mr. Spruanee objected, whereupon Mr. I.or» said that he wanted to prove that the books in question were taken out of the store, thence to San era' house, and Anally burned by the witness. They were, he argued, the very hooks which «James A. Banders hud denied knowledge, in reply to the court, said he couldn't prove that the books were kept in the name ol James A. Sanders, but thought ihr. facto» having the hooks burned was a necessary one in the line of fraud. The court did not think the question wa* relevant unless It was to prove that they were in the name ot James A., and therefore ruhd it out, t noted ; Finally Mr. Spruanc* said he was willing for Mr. Lor«- to inquire about the books, notwithstanding the tilling of the court. Mr. Lore refused to accept the privilege. whereu|>on the court and bar laughed heart ily und some one exclaim*, i. "A game ol bluff." Examination resum'd. In January, 1881, James A. danders told witness he was going out ot business, and wanted hiiu to remain until that time; just about the time bill» mark, d H. L. Sanders were going up in tin windows.
