Milford, March 16.—Every farmer or
owner of « peach orchard that you meet on
the street seems to be smiling at the good
prospect of another good year for the peach
crop. There was never a better prospect of
an overstock of peaches this year. Wheat
is also showing well.
Our shipyards are iu full blast. Mr. R.
J. Lank is building a large three-masted
schooner for Philadelphia parties. Simpler
A Revill have just contracted with Ex-Gov.
Hall to build for him a three-masted
schooner, also one small vessel for Captain
James Sipple for the Philadelphia and New
York trade from this place. James Abbott

From all indications the Opera House
will be crowded to-morrow evening to listen

Joseph Wehmann of Philadelphia will have
charge of the music and a uumber of line
singers from that city will also be present.

Dovbe, March l«.—Tho town meeting
held last night was as lively as a disinter
ested spectator could wish. John Bateman
presided and H. R. Kenney, Esq., acted as
secretary. The matter was first brought up
by H. C. Collison, who made a characteristic
speech, and he was followed by F. M. Dunn.
Both favored an increase of taxation aud
dwelt upon the disgraceful condition of the
streets. J. L. Heverin, amid great applause
and laughter pitched into things generally.
He opposed any one section, such as
Looker man street, securing all the
money raised for street purposes,
and charged the Lookerman street merchants
of talking in a selfish way. There were
several kinds of interests—simple interest,
compound interest, discount Interest and
self-interest. If the Town Council ain't
capable of taking care of the town's inter
ests, said he, turn 'em out. During a long
talk Mr. Dunn offered a resolution iu favor
of raising $1,000 additional, one-half tobe
placed on Lockerman street. Mr. Collisoif
offered a resolution in favor of increased
taxation, not exceeding* 86 cents on the
$100. William Dyer offered as a substitute
for these two resolutions, one favoring an
increase of $1,500, $1,000 to be put on Lock
erman street. Mr. Massey followed up with
another substitute to refer the whole mat
ter to a committee of nine with In
structions to prepare a bill. Mr. Massey's
substitute was adopted and the^ follow!
committee was appointed : George
Massey, William Dyer, Frank M. Dunn,
David Harringtou, Jeremiah M. Cannon, C.
8. Penuewlll, William Denney, A. B.
Richardson and H. C. Collison. During
the discussiou the Town Council was de
fended aud denounced and Messrs. Dyer
and Collison got into an altercation of in
tense, but only temporary, heat.

be a trustee of Delaware College to succeed
James L. Heverin, resigned.* The appoint
ment. is a most excellent one, and Mr.
Nicholson will make a good member of the
hoard. He ia a rising member of the Kent
county barund a young gentleman of fine
scholarly attainment.-.
Leg Broken.
George W. Wood, a native of Mauayunk,
Pa., who has been living in towu for some
weeks, broke his leg at Heald aud Lobdell
streets, iu South Wilmington, this afternoon
by a fail. He was taken to the Almshouse
by Officer Cannon and Dr. Ogle who at
tended him.
