Fred Smith of Philadelphia, who gave a rat and terrier entertainment in this city recently, gave another same kind last night In During the evening the following incident look place and is described by a Philadelphia ^*^Jake" Mayer's Scotch terrier, " Jack," then bounded into the circle with a yelp, ruled out because he di in't kill his performance of the Wrlghtsville, N. J. but was five rats In less titan two and a half minutes. The poor time made so disgusted Fred 8mltn, the referee, that he cried out : " Give me one of the rats ; I'll show you how to kill 'em. I can beat any dog in the world." A big rat. was handed to him and he made good his word. He grasped the rat firmly In his gloved hand aud bit it in the back of the ueck, just thre kick and expired a murmur of applau-e arose from the spectators One enthusiastic sport .-ingested that Smith should get in the ring and see whether be could kill more rats than the dogs. The suggestion was ig nored and the sport went on. ''Sam' Bally's "Prlnce", ,r a black-and-tan terrier; the next on the list, evidently profited by Smith's instruction, for when the rats were emptied into the circle he went to work with a will and got away with the five In 30 seconds. Au Agreeable EntertHlnmeut In the Opera Bouse. The Opera House was well filled down stairs last evening to hear the Arbuckle and Colby Grand Concert Company. The quar tette singing of the "Weber" folks was very fine, particularly "Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah," by Dow; and Shine ! Come," by Rhodes. For an encore they gave "Remember Now Thy Creator,' by Rhodes, in a delight!ul manner, impression made by their so was not so good. Mr. Arbuckle fering Irom a severe cold and did not do hinn-elf justice. Miss Arbuckle may make a better impression on another hearing. Young Master Bertie Shelley, who was not announced will make a violinist if he is put to work at legitimate practice, but it would be a pity if he were to take the concert stage •reeted very kindly and re ceived the heartiest applause of the evening.
