J., by the discovery that the Rev. Geo. r] Brist r, pastor of St. Luke's Methodist Episcopal church, at Clinton avenue and Mu-ray street, ha« beeu guilty of henious crimes, and there was much excitement manifested yesterday when the true fact« of the case were learned, The matter was brought to light Friday last by a gentleman who overheard a con versation betw.en two boys, who were dls cussiug the preacher's practices. The gen tleman related the circumstances to the father of one ol the boys, who In turn ques tioned ids »on and received a corroboration, and whs grieved to learn that other boys were implicated. A publication lieud« d,"Are the Louisiana Lottery drawings lair,'' w hich originally ap peared in several Northern aud Western l»apers as an'advertisement, by a hostile lot tery company, as we believe, has been copied inte» a number of other papers, doubtless os an advertisement also. he charges, Insin uations and juuendot-8 contained in said publication are false in every respect, so Jar as they affect the fairness of the draw ings of the Louisiana Lottery, or the lutegritv ol the acte ol the Lottery Company. Vs hen the undersigned had charge only of the semi-annual drawings, they counted the tubes containing the numbers previous to *b ot those drawings lo be certain that all were put in the wheel. Siuce they have had charge ol the monthly drawings also, tla* wheel bus been under their «occlusive c* ntrol, and alter each drawing they have restored ail the draw n numbers to the wheel, locked it, aud sealed it iu such a manner us to render it iuip«meihic for the numbers to be reuched or Interlered with without their knowledge. They have thus beeu always certain that all the numbers were in the wheel al each drawing, and they alone arc responsible tor the integrity of the draw-lugs. Tbe suggestion that each ticket-holder, on the day of and before each drawing, s. ould be allowed to call out his number aud see it. put in Ihe wheel, is too absurd to deceive anyone who ever witnessed a single number drawing, and any lottery company w hich resorts to any such trick proves itself tobcalraud. Tbe intimation that pursuits have been paid to allow their names to be published as the winners of prix«*s iu this Lottery is also taise and* without the slightest foundation iu fact.
