The disrespect for the Municipal Court which has beeu openly expressed by the raembere of the police force ever since its Institution, and eneourajfed by papers and people who ought to have better sense, has culminated In a direct, but false and mall clous charge that Judge Cummins invarl ably dismisses without punishment vagi ants arrested by the officers. Since his appointment, Judge Cummins, by uniform courtesy and in accordance with the gentlemanly instincts which are a part of his nature but to which his calumniators are total strangers, has exercised towards the Impudent members of Mayor Wales' force the utmost consideration and forbear ance. He haa even permitted tke diguity of the Court to be encroached upon, 1 m hit eflorta t.» maintain perfect harmony and avoid the appearauce of making his official position the means of humlllatiag those who formerly exercised the functlohi of the Municipal Court. And the only re turn for this uuusal clemency has been im pudence and malicious abuse. It is really time for Judge Cummins to turn over a now leaf, and as he is defcl lug with a set of people who have no consideration whatever for decency and fair treatment, hè should bring the "model" police up with a short turn, aad make every mother's sou ol them toe the straight mark of official propriety aud jufil cial respect. The time lor forbearauce has passed, should aud In the future, he that the impudeuce aud misrepreseu talions ol the "models" are promptly punished by fine and commitment for contempt. He has the power, which none who know him will ever suspect him of Usiug arbitrarily, but he can wield it in a manner that will compel the respect for the Municipal Court, which his courtesy and gcntlemauly bearing have heretofore failed to draw from the human hogs who wear the uniforms of the city police. Governor Foster, of Ohio, who charged that Judge Hoad ley, the Democratic candi date 1 or Governor, spent $50,000 to secure his nomination, now says his statement was based upon a remark made by ■w«paper correspondent iu Indianapolis. For the Governor of a great State to make obscure such a charge against a political oppo. neut pon uo other authority titan that ol an irresponsible scribbler residing in another State, is one of the smallest and meanest things a man could be guilty of. Ohio is a great State, but she has the knack of thrusting into political prominence soma of the smallest men in the word, of whom R. B. Hayes and "Calico" Charley Foster notable specimens. Rev. Dr. BrisTor makes an expl.cit de nial of the base charges preferred against him by the officials of his late congregation in New; rk, N. J , aud claims to be able to lully establish his innocence. Aside from any personal feeling tor Dr. Brifitor, friends of true religion orality would prefer him triumphantly viud cated than to witness his dowufall. But if he insists upon investigation it ought to be free and full, wiihout the slightest suspicion of white washing agencies. to As a real, genuine aud unexpected piece oi news it may be mentioned that the Quickstep base ball club won a victory yes terday. To equalize matters, however, the Philadelphia aud Baltimore clubs sustained their UHual defeats. We doubt if the equil ibrium of the Bportiug world could with stand the shock that would surely be oc casioned bv all three of these clubs winning a victory on the same day.
