HfcPHINTEO FROM YESTERDAY
TBK DEVKAT.
A Fall Account of the <Jalek*tep Osme b
Bsniiburg.
The H&rrisburg Patriot of tbia morning
gives the following aceotnt of the game to
that city yesterday :
The Quicksteps little expected the severe
trounciug In store for them when they scat
tered to play the championship game on the
Third street grouuds yesterday. Not
one of the nine but what looked
forward to victory and intruded to
retrieve the disastrous defeat the
Reading Actives gave them on Saturday,
but the score of 17 to 1 dispelled the dein
sion and shuts out all nopes of their captur
ing a ball from the 8* rung Harrisburgs In
the future uni• sa they come down to the
most solid sort of business. Manager Mc
Hugh entered his protest early against
Blakely, the phenomenal pitcher. He *"
serted that Blakely did not receive a re
lease from the Athletics, of Philadelphia,
with whom has has been playing, but gave
In after the young fellow' showed the nec« s
aary paper, sud Manager Myers the contract
made with the Harrisburgs, a contract
signed before the Trenton game last Frl
day.
The Quicksteps were unfortunate from the
start through. Fox won the toss and his
nine took the field. 8hetxitne gained second
__ a sharp drive to left, centre and Myers
started with a hard foul tip which struck
Cusick's mask, the wire cutting a deep
gash iu his forehead. Cuslck was too
severely injured to contlrue and after a
twenty minute delay Geary was substituted,
dressed in a Harrisburg suit, catching
very creditably ryle's swift but at
times irregular delivery through
out • the game. The Quicksteps'
beat batters could do nothiug with Blakely.
The latter stood iu his box cool and collected
right along, never permitting a chance to
pass by and sending in as puzzl ng a ball as
any batter ever attempted to strike. The
run in the ninth inning was made by Fox
and was well earned. All through the eight
preceding innings the Wilmington aus bad
taken repeated trips to Chicago, and matters
were blank indeed. Fox hit a high ball over
Burns' bead to left field lor two bases, se
curing third on the only passed ball Mc
Closkey had in the game, but that did not
give the run as Waitt followed with a two
base hft. to Casey at ceutre, bringing in Fox
easily. Once in the sixth inuiug Kienzel,
by a low drive reached first and was ad
vanced by Ben cere and Fox to ttyrd, but In
attempting to score Was put out -near the
home plate by Smith's quiek titdding ol a
ground ball lroin Waitt 's 'bat. Albert did
not play his usual gau:e at short and Fox
made costly tumbles at third. Pyle was
batted with ease tor five runs iu the fourth
and again five in the sixth inning, the home
team haviug a regular picnic—lb with a
total ol 24 base hits. The score Is as follows:

To the Editor of the Gazette: The

rent houses should be informed. It is a
well-known iact, that in all large cities,
many portions or localities are built up by
mere money getters. These persons have

the increase iu the valuation of surrounding
properties. This has a teudency to increase the
tax rate, and death rate. For be it remem

low lax rate, as well as a low death rate,
and unhealthy cities and towns have a
high tax rate aud death rate,
