the jrirl were then goinç to
Philadelphia, Where they proposed getting
married.
The warrant wa* IsBued and placed in the
hands of constable Viter »od the trio then
started for the depot. When they arrived
there tbev found that their man wa« in the
United States Rotel ami for the purpose
BurpriBing him it was arranged that
woman should enter the hotel
afusr tie officer« had been there
for a few minute«. She was fostructeil to
walk lu iront of ber husband and suddenly
raise her veil and then await develop
mente. The program wag followed out in
every particular, but when the woman sud
denly raised her heavy veil and threw her
arme around bis neck, at the same time
kissing him, it created no more impression
on him than it would have done on a wooden

man.
The runaway husband was then taken to
the 'Squire'» office where he consented to
sign an sgreemeut to maintain the woman
but «wore that he would not go back to hi«
old home, giving as hi» reason for leaving
his wife and two children, that he had be
come tired of the locality and wished a
change. This appears to be a very lame ex
cuse from the fact that be is said to be in
very good circumstances and is the renter
of a very large and good farm.
His wife is considerably older than he,
aud appears lo be careless about her per
sonal appearance, while he dresses with
considerable taste, and make« a very good
appearance.
The parties were married in Dover about
13 years a^o and have two children. The
wife has relatives living on Spruce street in
this city and appears to be devotedly at
tached to her husband. Where they went
after leaving the 'Squire's office is not
known, but it 1« understood from Inquiry
around the depot that they left
lug traiu for their old ho.*ae.
The girl who was to have come up to meet
the husband, did not put in an appearance,
possibly having thought better ot her rash
promise aud d«cid< d to live in single blessed
ness in preference to marrying a man who
was already possessed of a wife.
