OUtord, '306 East Third street, was entered by thieves who carried oil all the clothing belonging to Mr. Gifford, besides a lot of other wearing apparel valued In all about «250. The thieves effected an entrance at a side window which they attempted to pry open with a ilmmy, but falling tn this they de liberately cut out a pane of glass and reach ing in unfastened the window catch at the top. They then proceeded to the second floor, to the room adjoining that occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Gifford, and In which were hanging two overcoats, two full suits, all of last weeks wash which was plied up lu a heap, and all the clothing worn by Mrs. Gifford during the day. All these the burglars carried away besides a valuable clock and a heavy silver pitcher, a gift of distant friends a bank book. At 2 o'clock Mrs. Gifford wss up and went into the adjoining room, having, as she thought, heard a uolse, but went back to again, having failed to And anything tig. Unfortunately ft was so dark that he was compelled to go slow, and as a consequence the robbers madegood their escape. Word was lodged at police atatlon and a description given of the article« stolen. In conversation with a Gaietts represen tative this morning Mr. Gifford said In con clusion, after enumerating all the articles taken: "Confound thorn, they are the meanest thieve« I ever heard of. Why they even stole the only decent hat I had and left me with this old ragged soft that I had thrown off. Speakmao, died last night, at her resi dence, No. 503 West Sixth street, from an affection of the brain and spine, miter a brief bat severe illness. The voung isdy wss a consistent member of Union M. E. Church and a faithful worker in the Sunday School, having been assistant superintendent of the Infant school for several year*. When in good health she was always promptly her post of duty, and her «beerful presence and ^effective labors will be sadly missed. She wss also a favorite among a large circle of acquaintances, to whom she wss greatly endeared by reason of her kindly nature and genial qualities. Her funeral will take place from Union M. E. Church on Wednesday afternoon. A sod fact in connection with the death of Miss Speakmao Is that her mother Is very ill, and ft was while engaged lu nursing her that she wss seized with the fatal illness. Both occupied the same room, and from her elck-hed the bereaved mother witnessed the last hours of her dying daughter. The Work of Bad Boys. Sometime during last evening a crowd of boys deliberately broke 26 panes of glass lu school No. 2, at Eleventh and Washing ton streets. The damage was done with stones, which the boys shied at the windows from pare cussedness.
