He makes a very able argument showing the advantages that will be derived by the whole country, by fostering our mining interests and shows by quotations that such has been the opinion of our ablest states men from the administration of Av ash- WHOLESALE AND RETAIL ington to that of Grant. A branch to this Bureau should be established in every State and Terri tory where mining is carried on, to collect information and forward it to the Bureau at Washington. Connected with each branch should be an Assay office where the prospector could deposit his ores and obtain reliable assays tree or charge. 5y selectm a capable man for each of these branches, he would bring into use his former experience and would be enabled to experiment on the ores of each particular section, and give the results of such experiments to the miners and to the Bureau at Washing ton. In Arizona Ave have vast quan tities of sulphuret gold ores that are rich enough to pay if the gold could be saved, and so far experiments that have been tried have failed. We have hundreds of prospectors now examin ing the country for precious metals They are constantly bringing in ores but we have no means of testing its value except by sending it hundreds and often thousands of miles away and trusting to strangers to assay and send the returns. We notice that The San Diego Union in an able editorial points out the danger to peace in Arizona by the sudden withdrawal of troops at this time. Tho Union is ever on the alert to battlo for and sustain the rights and interests of Arizona, next to its own beloved San Diego, Arizona has its most watchful care. We hope these efforts will be appreciated and re warded accordingly. Tho Miner of May 10, also gives tho same timely warning.
