Holbroolc and Mr. Maxwell camo into Camp Grant a few days since from the Francisco river. This river is located in tho eastern part of this Territory and empties into tho Gila about fifty miles above Pueblo Yieio. The above gentlemen report about fifty miners in that vicinity; one company is digging a tail-race on ono of tho bars of the river prepara tory to sluce washing. A ditch ha3 been surveyed with a view of taking the water on to the extensive gravel banks found along tho river, but it is found that it will require a ditch about fifteen miles in length to ac complish the object. The expense of constructing this ditch 13 beyond the means of those who are there, but many express a willingness to work on tho ditch lor their board, and trust for pay until the ditch is com pleted and payment can be made from the proceeds. Mr. Maxwell had one piece of gold worth 3 25 ; and Mr. Holbrook had an average prospect taken from a ra vine some distanco back from the river that weighed eight cents to the pan of dirt. These gentlemen are of the opinion that it is useless for miners to go to this section unless a sufficient capital can be raised to tako out a ditch, for without it the mines will not pay. Such was the opinion of Gov. Safford, who prospected this country over a year ago. Laozmsky & Co. are successfully smelting copper in this district, and a few days ago loaded twenty-one teams with copper, about 150 tons. These copper mines are said to be of the richest kind. E.
