as a candidate for re-election, which
you will please have published in th
several papers of the Territory, if the
people nave not selected any one else
as a candidate, in winch case vou wilt
not have it done. It was 1113' wish to
visit the Territory before coming to a
conclusion, out 1 am compelled to re
main here for an indefinite time and
therefore I make this announcement,
and hope it will meet with approval.
In speaking of candidates, I except
Mr. C. C. Bean, as I am aware he is in
the field.
As will he seen to-day, Hon. G. II.
Oury is also out :is a candidate, and
there are rumors that "V. II. Hardy
will oirer his name for the same posi
tion.

ctves any candidate will be riven to

he will be re-elected. In supporting
him, we deom it unnecessary to make
any direct opposition to other candi
dates, unless they shall choose to pro
voke it A Congressman rarely meets
the expectations of his over enthusi
astic advocates, and that perhaps is the
case with Mr. Stevens ; but on the other
hand, his impartial attention to public
atEiirs and measure of success, the
diameter of the present Congress be
ing duly considered, nave been quite
satisfactory to the people generally,
and we believe they will give him a
second term, in which his efficiency
will be very much increased because of
his experience, acquaintance, and es
pecially owing to the fact that the term
will be during a session of Congress
