B. Weisel. Esq., of Silver City, N. M.,
arrived this inornlug aud expects to leave
to-day or to-morrow for Florence and
Globe City. His trip is made in connec
tion with his growing business interests.
We learn from Mr. Welsel thatLesinsky's
mill in Silver City will bo ruunlng In
about two weeks; also that a Boston com
pany is expected there to put up a new
mill. Business generally is rather quiet.
The rush at present Is in the lumber trade.

V. H. Harris, in the valley beyond Le
vin's, shows a state of things beyond the
expectation of Tucson people. Mr. Har
ris Is the first American, we believe, to un
dertake the business of market gardening
in this valley. He has been at work since
January 1, and now makes a tine showing.

morrow for a tour of Inspection.
Ben. Morgan, of Prescott, has arrived.
We understand that he will make Tucson

Jahes Carr's train will arrive Wednes
day, with 530,000 pounds of freight.

The western stage came in to-day about
noon, several hours late.
Lord it Williams are now recelvln
large invoices or new goods. Monday
Stewart's train brought thorn 15,000
pounds. Yesterday Field $: Morgan had
16,428 pounds for them. To-day they ex
pect about S0.0O0 pounds more. Their new
stock consists of a general assortment of
miners supplies, household goods, dress
goods, hard-ware. ic., Ac They respect
fully invite buyers to examine their
stock.
Ben Morgan lea by this evening's
coach for Prescott, whither he goes to set
tle his affairs at the Capital, after which
he will return with his wife and perma
nently locate In Tucson. Mr. Morgan is a
good lawyer and has gained quite a repu
tation as an orator. He expects to bo back
in about three weoks and we shall be
pleased to welcome him in our midst.
The Sheriff starts for Yuma to-morrow
with the prisoners in the County Jail un
der sentence. A private conveyance has
been engaged at something less thau the
regular rates. There are four prisoners,
Gomez, Corrales.GriJalba and Selden;the
first three to serve one-and-a-half, elirht
and flvo years, respectively, and Selden
for life.
There Is a subdued note of preparation
abroad in the village, and It deepens as
the evening shades come on. It will cul
minate to-night in a pleasant social occa
sion at tho residence of one of our worth
iest citizens on Main street.
There Is an Item or Interest to Tucson
and the world generally, contained In the
fact that the receipts of the telegraph
office at this place for the months of Jan
uary and February are Just about treble
what they were for the correapouding
months lastyear.

A load of fine bacon came in yesterday
from Los Angeles and was offered at SIS
per hundred pounds. It found a ready

The residence of Mr. E. N. Fish was a
scene of fun and festivity last night. Tho
real occasion of It all was the fact that
yesterday was March 12, and just five
years since Mr. ami Mrs. F. had started
on their way together. It was their inten
tion tosuprise their fi lends after all were
together, by tho announcement that this
was their wooden-wedding day; but there
were too many confidential whlperlngs,
and the result was that the friends serious
ly treated the matter as a genuine wooden

book, containing private papers, photo
graphs and S110 In money. It was lost
this morning about seven o'clock between
the store or L. Zeckondorf it Co., and Col
ton's Corral. The finder will be paid fifty
dollars reward and no questions asked,

Mayor Toole says that there Is no truth
In the rumor recently circulated, stating
that the real cause for the Increase of our
police forca was the numerous arrivals
lately registered from Prescott. Theslm

There Is no doubt but that this family

relations. We congratulate the high con
tracting parties and the community, upon
the attainment of this anniversary, and
hope for many returns.
Among the many evidences or our gen
eral progress and prosperity Is the rapid
increase In the attendance at our public
school. We learn rrom Prof. Horlon that
the accommodations at the school build
ing are insufficient for the number ol
pupils now on the rolls. The present at
tendance is about 223, while the rolls for
the same month lastyear show a roll or
only 175. The school building will accom

pils, so that there is already a surplus of

from San Carlos, and reporu matters gen

At an early hour this morning two of
our most worthy citizens were observed In
front of The Citizen office, engaged In
an earnest conversation. After watching
them several hours some sympathetic
friends started to their relief with a couplo
of chairs. Their approach was qulokly
discovered and tho self-appointed relief
committee was greeted with a volley of
