J. m. Seberto that ke "ver Mat Dat. Notwithstanding the fact that the Election of May Queen last year was so perfect ly satisfactory under the system of Electing by vote and allowing each vote to be represent by so much money, it has been thought best this year to allow the children to choose the Queen without the use of money, and to raise the means for defraying expenses, which it U decided to make very light, In some other way. It is pro posed to select the grounds near the town to avoid the expense of transportation, and that each family furnish refreshment for their own and such other children as may be allotted' to them that arc unprovided for otherwise. Adults, being near the restaurants, hotels and their homes can take care of themselves, or spar" their way as best they may. The main point will be to provide ample accommodations and amusement for the children, and in this way It is believed we can have a real jolly May Day Picnic, Crowning of the Queen, etc, at an almost nomiual expense. Every grown person worth trying to please, Is sure to be delighted when the children are happy. Let us bend every energy to this accomplishment, and pay no attention to the older people, each of whom can consider him or herself a committee of one to look out lor number oue. To-day is election day; the children are each to bring their ticket to school with the name of their candidate written upon it, and tha girl receiving the most votes will be crowned on Tuesday, May 2d, which is the day fixed for the Celebration. The names of Mrs. Bourkc, Mrs. Rush, Mrs. Wells, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Buffum, and Mrs. Burmlster arc suggested as a committee to attend to the tables; with Messrs. Geo. W. Curtis and Joseph Knott as Committee of Arrangements. The place sciectod for the Celebration is near the spring back of the residence of Judg6 Flenry. General Thomas Wilson, of the Subsistence Department of the Army, arrived from San Francisco here last week, on important business connected with bis branch of the Service. He called upon us on Wednesday with a letter from a mutual friend, and we lound him all that friend described, "One of the old style," (meaning, of course, our style) "A perlect gentleman and geuial companion." We were indeed much pleased with the General, and glad to see that he takes an intelligent interest in mining mat ters and particularly In the quettlon of the re duction of refractory ores. Before leaving San Francisco be visited the new works of the Miu diletT Reduction Co., and examined samples of ore that had been submitted to the action oi com mon marsh or illuminating gas in combination with heat under a heavy pressure, and he gives lithe preference over any other process he has yet seen both as a ma'.ter of economy and the perfect manner in which it frees the precious metals irom the base, but we shall give the Min dileff process more attention at another time. General Wilson is in raptures with our climate and skies, and we feci quite safe in trusting him to do them Justice and in appropriate terms to his friends when, he ngain reaches the foggy at mosphere of bis San Francisco bomc. Gone to St. Louis. D. L. Mogruder, Medical Director of the Military Department of Arizona, left on Wednesday morning with his family for California. Mrs. Mazruder and the children are bouud for St. Louis, Mo., and the Dr., on thirty days leave of absence, will accompany them as far as Salt Lake, from whence be will return and assume the duties of his office until such time as the Department shall be willing to transfer him to the East. Capt. Ilargrave has so far recovered from his late severe illness as to be able to walk out as far as Rush it Wells' office, on Tuesday. Capt. Shoup is still improving and will soon be walkiug on crutches. Mrs. Jewell writes from San Bernardino to Mr. Howard, the jeweler, that she is still unable to walk without assistance, and ber physicians think it will be uuoafo for her to again attempt to cross the desert, consequently they have con cluded to fit up a home in San Bernardino and remain there.
