Polico Jury, Bo it !:a:wn, ' ■ I -i: t'. f 'li i : i ' of September Eighteen huntired and sixty weven, at 10 o'clock a. m , | in accordanco with previous n-1 jniriimcnt and in pur suance of the following order of General Sheridan : "Tlie inspectors or ^yiidi^s will be required to enter on the performance of their duties forwith , to a thorough inspection of the levees in their respective districts; t-> notify all riparian prop;-ietora to repair or strengthen their levees, or to construct new levees, as the inspectors or syndics may direct; and in default thereof to enforce the law made and provided in such rases. A correct account of the expenses of all such repairs, and for construction of new levees, whether in curred by individuals or the parish, will be kept and ceriititiil by the inspector, or syndic of the ward, and ap proved by the president of the police jury. A copy of the same will be filed with the police jury of the parish for record, and another copy no certified wttl be trans milled by the president of the police jury to the se cret try of tlie board of levee commissioners, who shall preserve llie same and record the amount and transac tion in a book to be kept lor that purpose. It shall be the duty of said inspectors, or syndics, to make a special report to the presidents of the polices juries what new levees may be required in their several districts, as absolutely necessary ; to yive the locality and dimensions of »uid levee or levees, and it 8 hall be the duty of the presidents of the police juries to forth with transmit a copy c f the said report to the secretary of the Board of Levee Commissioners and all levees whether built by individuals, corporations or parochial authorities, upon being measured and accepted by the duly authorized engineer of the board, will be entitled to receive compensation tor such levees from the pro ceeds of the State bonds appropriated by the Legisla ture for the construction of the levees. The State engineer will be required to visit, without delay, the various points of the levees on the Missis sippi river at which crevasses have occurred, and ascer tain the extent of said breaks, and report to the governor of the State the estimated cubic yards required to rt I place each levee, who shall transmit a copy of said re- i port to the board of Jevee commissioners." On motion of Mr. Poch', seconded by Mr. Ory, It is resolved that the Jury proceed to the election of the Syndics of said Parish, and the following named gen tlemen were unanimously elected : 1st ward, Fi.irian Bri K nac. 2nd ward, Louis Chrnc-l. 3d ward, H. G. Smith. 4th ward, t'rsia Boudreaux. 5th ward, Ad im Gaudet. Gth ward, Nelville LeBeuf 7th ward, J. B. "Waguespacb. 8th ward, Augustin Falgoust. On motion of Mr. Poch<5, seconded by Mr. Ory. it is resolved, that the Secretary of said jury be instructed to have a copy of General Sheridan's orders relative to | levees added to these resolutions. On motion, the account of Mr. Lapice reduced to one hundred and one and 7.^100 dollars be approved i (? 101,75.) ' On motion of Mr. Ory duly seconded, it is resolved. I that the parish treasurer, give public notice, during fif' teen [15] days in (lie official paper, to the persons having claims against the parish of St. James, to pre sent themselves to the said treasurer, from this time to the 1st Monday of October next, in order to have their name inserted in a book kept to that effect. 2o. That the said treasurer takes information of the ta* collector of the amount of parish taxes yet to be collected, and to make a report at the next session of •he Police Jury, of the debts and receipts probable of the Parish of Saint James, until the expiration of the year 1867. On motion of Mr. Poch <5 duly seconded, it is resolved, that the Secretary be instructed to notify the treasurer of these resolutions. On motien of M. Poch ' duly seconded, it is resolved, that a committee of three be appointed to revise the State Laws and parish regulations, relative to the po lice of catties, horses, hogs, etc., and report thereon at the next meeting of the Police Jury, said committee to be composed of Mr. John B. Ory, chairman, on motion of Mr. Pochd, Tircuit and Poch*''. On motion the Jury stands adjourned until the 2nd Monday of October next. A true copy.
