Editors Courier: —We have just read in the number of your paper of April 30, of the heroic act of Sheriff Lowe of this place, in sav ing from certain death one of our countrymen. The circumstances of this occurrence, as rela ted by you, were pretty near correct. But what was not said, and what we are most happy to let you know, is the coolness, activity and cour age which Mr L. displayed on this occasion, in risking his life, in order to preserve that of our unfortunate countryman. The circumstances that woidd have caused most meu to hesitate even venturing into the flood at so great a risk, did not deter him for a moment. And it was with a perfect knowledge of the dangers neces sary to be encountered, that Mr. L. determined to save the life of our friend. Such an act does the highest possible honor to that gentleman, and proud should a community be that possesses so noble a man as a citizen and public officer. As for ourselves we are penetrated with the most profound gratitude for the brave and hu mane conduct of the Sherifl. And we crave the use of your columns in giving the greatest pub licity possible to llie generous act, and to thank him in a manner worthy ot the noble deed. We hope Mr. Editor that you will receive our letter favorably, and give it space in your next number. With the greatest respect we are. gentlemen, your friends. A. (JOtiL AICDUA.
