SHASTA COURIER. Copper City Correspondence. Mu. Editor:— I promised to write yps long since, but want of incidents, and no want of heat in the atmosphere, has heretofore deter red roe; but of late I have been circulating round. I have been a fishing—yes, sir, that is what they call it at Copper Lily. On Friday morning, 15th inst., we started out with all the paraphernalia necessary to camp life ; J.nt't think of any thing necessary to the comfort of the inner man that did not accompany this fishing party. Demi John cared for the wants of lliose of feeble consti tutions, by stuffing full his portly crust; and Demi, fur his kindly forethought, had no cares thereafter, the gratitude of the party making li),cm over watchful of his condition, often turning him up and over to see that nothing ailed him. Up and over mountains, through valleys, gulches, canons and sago brush we traveled, till at last w e arrived on the hanks of tie classic McCloud river, in the vicinity of which a large gathering ot Lo, the poor In dians, the aborigines of our country, were , congreg.tt Imagine our Joy at finding that we were < just in time to participate in the festivities , —a dance and all the accompaniments. Most cordially were we received by kings and princes, queens and maids (?) of honor, and most pressingly invited to accept their hospi tality. To have refused would have given pain to noble minds, and so we didn’t.— Though tired ve conclude ! t > go in. taking but small time to arrange our foilet, their majesties most graciously excusing us from appearing in the elaborate court costume of a dirty shirt end—nothing else. Soon the s ( *und of turn turn summoned us to the supper. Right royally was tlie feast *et forth. No bills r fare to bother weak eves, or necessitate the of spectacles, or expose those who couldn’t read, but every thing was set tii in plain u‘yle, that all might see, admire, wonder, gaze, and help himself. I shall not attempt a description of the banquet. I am not competent for the task. The guests were too eager for the dance to spend much time at the banquet, and soon the sound of music ended the feast and brought forth the dancers. So magnificently grand were the arrange ments for this amusement, so much in vogue among this primitive but luxurious people, that all easily found room on the first floor ing, and though the c »up’e< may have been numbered by hundreds, yet there was room for thousands. The lights were magnificent; costly, no d »übt, but not to this generation. The material used was moonlight and star light —often admired by white barbarians, but never used qd such occasions, or, fur that matter, on no good one at any time. At ihe ht ad of the arrayed dancers stood his majesty, 11yastickie Muck-a-Muck, and his rig it h«*r most gracious majesty Uvas tica Squiioh—the latter in robes of stale, of a not v»*ry large piece of orna riiente 1 hock-kin around the loins, with beaded strings hanging m thick masses to tin* knee. The rail feathers ot a California peacock ornamented her majesty’s head. \ xt in .Tiler "'a- the Princess R »yal, lliyu Potrat Oi, with her nineteen or twenty sisters, all arrayed in t*»p same gorgeous costume of her m ijesfv. There were other beauties— ho royal I.roily not being able to monopo lize everything —among whom might be men tinned Miss Tarhe.id, Miss Jackass-Rabbit, Miss Smutface, Miss Skunkiana and Miss Muck a muck—all adorned as beauty is said be m >st a lorned. There was no room for Criticising th a ir c istume. A luxury of a lu»c was the prevailing style, and 1 commend it. Uut the belle of the evening, ihe admired of all, and who shone resplendent on this occasion, was Miss Cege Nation, and her remarkable style of beauty drew around her the elite and the critical. Bilcap, (vour whi loin correspondent) looked and was subdued. Our susceptible edit r looke 1 surprised, then admired.and was smitten. And the the dance went on in spite of the dust on the floor, in .spite of the li_ -* t growing dim—the larger kinpin try having fallen ou of sight —ihedim ness giving the imagination a chance to make beauties more beautiful; and then, our bodies weary, our hea is drunk with the excitement of many hours, one by one the fishing party were not of ihost* in sight, and your corres pondent gracelully fell off from the still gav revel, that he, too, might fish on another oc casion. I suppose in v companions were lux uriously lodged somewhere in the palace. I bulged against a pile of sage brush, thereby disturbing some fair one. I begged pardon for ha ing unintentionally entered her room, and parsed :i to the next. Again I was the in u ..f alarm t. ipdc'v iken one —one of the occupants seemed to understand ,the English language very well. — when, he coining somewhat irritated, I stopped not ag iio until I bad reached a room most remote, with m mzanba tr minings, and then slept | until old S>l p iked his shining nose in mv ; lace. 1 arose, b e revellers were about, and ■ s Mias -( N by th“ light of the sun. Oa M a.d we re turned. n r shall we fish again until* the an- j n.v rsary of this trip, when like attrac tions may again call u> forth. Of our town and mines little need be said.
