County of Shasta State of Coliforaia, has made
application to this office to enter a*s agricultural
land the tract of land above described under the
Pre-emption laws of the United Slates, And Where
as Henry Rothwell, William Kinney, L. C. Rice
and Samuel Yenawine Filed in t e U. S. Land
office at Marysville an affidavit alleging the said
land to bo mineral in character and more valuable
for mineral than agricultural purposes, Now
Therefore notice is hereby given to Jail whom it may
concern that the undersigned have appointed tho
24th day of July A. I). 1871 at 10 o’clock A. M.
at the U. 8. Land office in the town and county of
Shasta, State of California, us the lime and place
for the hearing of testamony before the Register
ami Receiver of said office to determine the facts
as to the mineral or non mineral character of said
land, at which time and place all parties in inter
est. with their witnesses, may be heard, and their
testimony reduced to writing; after which the
proceedings will be sunmitted to the Commissioner
of the General Land office f>*r rev; w prior to a
final award. And in ease of a failure to appear
and show the land to be more valuable f r mining
than for agricultural purposes, the said applicant
will he allowed to enter the land embraced in his
application upon satisfactory proof that said laud
s more valuable fur agricultural than for mineral
purpose*, and that the said applicant has fully
complied with the requirements of the Pre-emption
laws.

the Property Holders of Shasta County, that
in accordance with the requirom nts of law be has
entered upon tho performance of his official duties
for the current year. Ho would call particular at
tention to tho following section of the Revenue
Law :
“ If any person shall willfully make, or give,
under oath or affirmation, a false list of his, or her,
or their taxable property, or a false list of taxable
property under his, her, or their contiol, such per
son shall be deemed gnilty of peijury, and upon
conviction thereof, shall be punished therefor, as
is by law provided for the punishment of perjury ;
and any property willfully concealed, removed,
transferred, or misrepresented by the owner or any
agent thereof, to evade taxation, shall upon dis
covery, bo assessed at ten times the amount of tax
for that year, which would otherwise have been
assessed upon it; und fifty per cent, of the amount
ol such additional tax, when collected, shall be paid
to the person or persoons who shall furnish the
per centage for collection, shall be paid into the
Treasury, for the benefit of the Common School
Fund of the State.’ 1
