SHASTA COURIER. NOTICE TO PRE-EMPTION SET TIERS. For the information of settlers notice is hereby given that the individual claiming the right of Pre-emption must be Ist. A citizen of the United States, or have filed his declaration of intention to become a citizen. 2d. Either the head of a family, or wid ow, or a single man over the age of twenty one years. 3d. An inhabitant of the tract sought to be entered u]on which in person, he has made a settlement, erected a dwelling house, or purchased one upon the land. A person bringing himself within each of the above requirements will be entitled to enter, by legal subdivision, a quarter section of Government land, (the forty acre tracts claimed must block together —not corner.) If the land was unsurveyed at the date of settlement the party must file his or her Declaratory Statement within three months from the date of filing the Township plat in the U. S Land office. — If the land was surveyed at the date of s ettlement thereon then the Declaratory Statement must be filed within three months from date of such settlement. Parties having filed their Declaratory Statements prior to the 14th day of July A. D. 1870 are required by law to make proof and payment for their land, on or before the 14th day of July A. D. 1872. Parties desiring to make proof and pay ment for their land will please notify this office as to about the time when they wish to do so, whereupon we will fix the time and notify them accordingly. As to the proofs, when there is no con, test one creditable witness who knows the facts beside the claimant, is sufficient. In addition to what will be contained in the claimants pre-emption affidavit, the proofs must show the settlement, residence and improvement, (which generally includes cultivation.) sufficient to satisfy the land officers that the settlement is made iu good faith, also the qualificatioas of the claimant as a pre-emptor. In case the claimant is naturalized or has declared his intention to become a citizen, his naturalization papers must be produced in proof. In case adverse claims have been filed on the same land citations to the ad verse party are issued from this office upon request, with instructions to claimant as to mode of service. In case of contest, each party may have subpoenas for witnesses, issued on application. 4he map of the definite location of the California and Oregon Railroad up to the North lino in Township 40 North Range 5 4\ cst showing the limits of the with drawal for railroad purposes, was accepted by the Department proper August 7th, 1871, from which date the right of the Foad to the odd sections withdrawn at taches. I’arties whose settlements are upon su.- veyed land and within the limits of the withdrawal and who have not heretofore filed their Declaratory Statements should file the same without delay. And, where the settlement in said limits is upon un surveyed land, they should tile as herein before stated, ie : within three months after the filing of the Township plat in the District Land Office. JOHN S. FOLLANSBEE, Register. Oil AS. McDONALD, Receiver. The Shasta Stage Robbery. —Next to the great Chicago fire, says, the Colusa Sun, the most exciting subject of conver sation aronnd town for the past week has been the recent stage robbery in Shasta county, in which it is said some five Colu sa boys were implicated. Some of them have honorable and highly respectable re lations in this county—aged parents, whose gray hairs, should the reports prove true, will “go down in sorrow to the grave.” Appearances are very bad, but we hope for the best. >* A man's body is a delicate machine, sub ject to many ailments ; but a woman is sub ject to many more. Her little ailments, her nervousness and ’‘notions,” and headaches, although they seem trifling to men, are real disorders. For costiveness, dyspepsia, gen eral debility, pains in the back and loins nervious and sick headache, impurity of skin, and all troubles classed as “female com plaints,” Dr. Walker’s California Vinegar Bitters, which are purely vegetable, and may be safely given to the'most delicate, are a sovereign and speedy remedy. Used in time, they strengthen the system and avert serious disease. The “ Florence ! 99 The very best ever Invented. Specimens altrays kept on band, and all demands I applied by D. WEIL BRO., Agents.
