COLFAX FRUIT.
More Fruit Shipped From There in
1S!»O TlKin Evt-r Hefore.
[Ccllnx Sentinel. January 10th.]
Below we give the number of carloads
of iVtiit shipped abroad this season from
Colfax by the Mountain Fruit Company,
all of which commanded high prices, its
does all the fruit grown in this section;
and mark our words, old Father Time is
fast approaching with long, swinging
strides, as an advance guard to an im
mense army of industrious and energetic
soil-tillers, who will gobble up all (in
lands that are not taken, dot our hills
and valleys with farms, vineyards and
home*, and then old Placer can" raise the
banner that will float over them all, aud
its folds will be unfurled to the breeze,
displaying to the gaze of all its well
earned reputation of "First iv Wealth,
First in Diversity of Products, and First
in Quality." Following is the shipment
for 1800:
New York—Five cars of peaches, pears
and grapes.
Montana—Four curs of peaches and
grapes.
Chicago—Eight cars of peaches, pears,
plums and grapes.
Local market—Two thousand five hun
dred boxes, or about three cars.
A. G. Bell, of Hillside Vineyard,
shipped live cars (ten tons each) of wine
grapes to the Nevada County Winery.
Also one car to Sacramento.
W. B. Ilayford shipped two cars of
grapes, of ten tons each.
This makes a total of twenty-five car
loads of Bruit and grapes shipped from
< k>Uaz during 1890. The total number of
boxes would be about 20,000.

EL DORODAS OIL
It Produces Fine Olives nt an Altitude
of 1,500 Feet.
We have from time to time spoken of
tho value and capabilities of the soil of
this county, and variety and quality of
the fruit raised hero, snys the El Dorado
Democrat. The past year's crop, being
large and choice, has attracted the atten
tion of outsiders, and the State press is
beginning to pay some attention to El
I >orado products. It was only last week
that a strong point was made in favor of
our county by D. Johnson of Sacramento,
who owns a iarge olive ranch mar Pflol
Hill, in this county. lie stales that he
found that the olives on his place, tost
above Cool, ripened fully live weeks
prlior than the same fruit' in the valley.
Thia most desirable result is despite the
fact that ('ool is fully 1,500 feet'higher
than Sacramento.
The same paper says: "Joseph Meyer
of Grizzly Flat brought to this office this
week some line samples of vegetables,
raised by him at an altitude of 4,500 feet.
Parsnips and carrots were especially line,
the latter measuring four inches fn cir
cumference. There was a foot and a half
of snow on the ground when Mr. Mty?r
duz these vegetables, yet they were fine
and solid ;ind .sweet when" we tasteJ
them. The rich soils of the mountains
raise the choicest of the hardy vege
tables."

About to visit some section of country
where malarial disease, either in the form
of chills ami fever or bilious remittent
\vas particularly rife, what would be
about the best advice you could give him?
We wiii tell you—to ciirry along, or pro
| euro on arriving, that potent medicinal
| safeguard. Hosteller's Stomach Bitters,
known throughout malaria plairued re
gions, here and in other countries, as the
surest means of disarming the miasmatic
scourge, and robbing it of its fell destruct
ive influence. Not only does it fortify
the system by increasing its stamina, bat
overcomes irregularity of digestion, the
liver and the bowels, and eoontamcta the
unfavorable, efiects of over-exerrion,
bodily and mental exposure in roagfa
weather, or occupation too sedentary or
laborious, loes of appetite and excessive
nervousness. The functions ofattmente
tion, bilious secretion and sleep have in
it a most powerful and reliable auxiliary.
Life is misery to thousands of people
who have the taint of scrofula in their
blood. There is no other remedy equal
to Hood's Sarsnpiuilla for scrofula, salt
rheum and every form of blood disease.
It is reasonably sure to benefit all who
try it.
