COMMERCIAL. Market for Farm Produce Quiet at San Francisco. . OflerlnKS of Cereals Light—Storing the Order of Uxe Day—Condition of the Sacramento Market. [Special Correspondence Record-Usion.] San Fkahcibco, July 23,1592. The market for farm produce was generally quiet. The offerings of cereals were light, which covered*a strong market, Storing con tinues the order of the day. Gardenstutt wus barely steady at around the prices ruling on yesterday. Potatoes are tending downward, unaer heavy receipts. The fruit market vn quiet to-day at Irregular prices. Receipts were large and demand light. There will be enough fruit carried over to meettiie demand which usually rules on Monday. The cool weather appears to restrict the local con sumption. The river boats arrived lat^. which necessitated the closing out of Peaches to canners at from 4<j@soc a basket, but they would not touch the Pears. Berries were firmer to-day. Poultry was steady, as Mas Dairy produce. Banks report a fair inquiry, with some en gagements, for funds from the interior for crop purposes. The low prices ruling for "Wheat and Barley are causing about all har vested to be stored. Even with fuliy 75 per cent, of the crop stored tie bauks are said to be in a good position to make all the advances required on a safe margin. Then- is no specu lative demand for money and it looks now as if there will not be any lor a lon^' time to come. The absence of any outside demand is rttiiected by the deposits in the savings banks in this city, which can be accepted as ■ lair representation of the State. On June :{O, 1891, the deposits aggregated $ 101,4(>4.>50, and atthelikedatethksy.ara-LUvua:' it s>llo, -l>;;ti,oo7. The savings banks reported money on hand and in the hands of other banks as follows: June 30, 1891, $2,795,486; June ;iv, 1999, $3.;i2-.','J'.>L'. A gain of nearly nine an.l a half millions dollars in the deposits within one year has never before bei-n tquali'l. There are many re:<6ons aasijgned lor me- ab sence of activity in tne local money market, with the a.ici pted opinion being the absence of speculation throughout the world, ami In its stead a feeling of uneasiness and distrust, "While that certainly lias its inlluouie, by, oausing people to hoard money, yet we have seen betore now that with hnancial panics a: the East and panics abroad this <oast was not affected, hardly a ripple bein^ di>i-ovt-red on the tinancial horizon, so that we have to look more to local iniiuenccs. There is no denying thut when w.t- have an attic market in this City for mining shares and local securities, the spirit of speculation spreads in almost all di rections, and e^ery industry and speculation feels its revivitying Influences. Now the mar ket for mining shares uncl 10.-ai secpritjes U more dead than a live, and the baneful iiirtui-ijc Is felt in all directions, and in the absence of j attractive ventures money yoes into bank on ' dfapvjsi)., to get as much oi.t of jt as possible, There is another reaf-on, ah'l which is prob ably as strong, viz: the intention of hutuiivds if not thousands of i>ersoiiß to go East some time in 1893 to sec the World's Fair, and at the huiue tuue yi.-iit ivlaiav.->. New Ciiliforiiias have the call from consumers <>n account of their cheapness, stocks of old ■ Oregous are well held and should receipts continue light will no doubt advance iv "h\Y—Receipts for the week 5.110 tons. The reason for the prevailing dullness in the hay market and the low prices now ruling must be apparent to every (armer when he notes the volume of receipts from week to week. Five thousand one hundred and forty tons iv one week is far more than this . market can take care of in a manner at all satisfactory to the people who raise hay. We .sincerely hope the situation will change for the better, but we cannot see much hope for the present. SACRAMENTO MARKET. The Week Ended with an Easier Fool ing in Local Circles.
