This fan can be made In less than live minutes. Again there comes another warm day when you “would give the world” as the saying goes, if only you might have a hammock to rest in and swing idly to and fro out in the open. Your wish can quickly be gratified if you happen to have a good strong strip of unbleached muslin or almost INDIANA DRY GOODS STORE any kind of strong cloth, to use for the purpose. At each end of the cloth make a hem through which to run a tough, strong flat stick or an old broomstick. A flat stick is best. When the stick has been inserted, holes must be made, through both cloth and flat stick. Through these holes pass stout rope. Four holes are required in each ham mock end (Fig. 2). Thread a long length of rope through each opening at each ham mock end; which means eight ropes, all of same length, four for each end. Tie the two ends of each over the outside edge of the hammock in a hard or square knot, then fasten se curely all rope ends of one ham mock end together. Do likewise with the other rope ends on the other end of the hammock and use a stout rope for tying this cool swinging seat to a tree or other support. When you want to .be outdoors working in your garden and the sun is too bright for comfort while wearing your narrow-brimmed hat (Fig. 3), all that is necessary to relieve the strain is to cut from large stiff box lid or stiff paper a wide brim (Fig. 4), and slash it at center to fit hat, turn up the slashes and slide the brim down over the crown of the hat.
