“TF-SS OF TIIE STORM COUN
TRY"—Latest Mary Pickford movie,
ripens at the Circle Sunday. The
=;ory is by Orace Miller IVhite. John
S. Robertson directed it. The cast in
cludes, besides the star, Lloyd
Hughes, Gloria Hope, David Tor
rence, Forrest Robinson, Jean Her
sholt, Danny Hoy, Robert Russell,
Gus Saville and Mme. de Bodamere.
This production is not the old
“Tess” made over, but an entirely
new production. Mary Pickford did
this story many years ago, but she
so loved the character of the
squatter's daughter that sho longed
to do it again at the height of her
career. It is said the best modern
photography and direction has been
given the new “Tess.” The new
“Tess” shows the great advancement
made in the film industry in the last
eight years. An entire squatter’s i
village on an ocean coast was built ;
to give the proper atmosphere of
iontsomer.ess. The story centers
around Tess, the daughter of a fisher
man squatter. The wealthy land
owners near by attempt to evict the
souatters, but when a son of one of
the owners falls in love with Tess —
well, that is another story.
THE BILL will include an over
ture. “Around the Christmas Tree;”
sn organ solo, "Christmas Smiles" as
compiled and arranged by S. Leopold
Kohls and played by Walter Flan- j
dorfif; the Circlette of News and i
Topics of the Day.

ested In this Question because of the high
admission prices which we are obliged to
charge.
“The producers aro organized and tbs
theater owners are disorganized and you are
in a very strategic position,, as sellers of
pictures, agaunst theater owners, as buyer#
of pictures. A careful analysis of the sit
uation brings us to tho conclusion that
whether unintentionally or surreptitiously
your organization is dominating prices ana
trade conditions and really functioning as a
highly organized picture monopoly A#
such we must object to your organization
and must make every effort to protect our
selves. I am bringing this to your notice
because I am absolutely sure that you, if
you were aware of this condition, would
use every means to correct it.
“I originated the ‘Big Man Idea,’ when I
proposed Mr. Tait to direct the theater
owners, some three years ago. and I believe
the idea is good, if properly directed. How
ever, it ueems to make a difference what
branch has the big man. and we have no
big man to champion our side of the case.
I believe you have no desire to work a
hardship on the theater owner through the
fact that we are unorganized and your
clients aro highly organized. I shall be
very glad to hear your side of the question,
and as the question is one affecting all
theater owners you can readily reply
opeuly.”
