The order of the public service commission boosting minimum wa ter rates was branded a “direct in sult to consumers” by South Side Civic Club members at Garfield community house Wednesday night. W. C. Rothermel, chairman of the clubs’ utilities committee, explained the order that increases the basis rate to consumers. “On strength of my talks with commissioners, I don't believe they knew what was in that order,” Rothermel declared. “There is discrimination in the order. That rate was based on normal conditions. It was forced upon us in a time of depression.” Rothermel stated he would con tinue the fight for lower water rates as long as the clubs supported him. “We should send a resolution to Governor Paul McNutt requesting that he insist the bill relating to changes in the utility laws be given prior right by the legislature,” Rothermel suggested.
