Committee composed of repre sentatives from twelve co-operating organizations which will take part in the institute sponsored by the Leisure Hour Club movement, be ginning Jan. 25, will meet Tuesday, Jan. 17, to complete plans for the course. Robert K. Murray, specialist in social recreation for the National Recreation Association, who will di rect the course, has provided these organizations with suggestions of needs for the institute. From these they will be ready to name persons capable of aiding in the course. The course will offer special in struction in acocmpanying com munity singing and musical games, as well as the directing of commu nity singing. Dwight Ritter, director of the Lesure Hour clubs, says that the lack of ability has been one of the most noticeable features in the forming of the clubs, as well as the lack of persons who have the ability to set up a program. “What we are hoping to get out of this institute,” Ritter said today, "is a group of ring-masters for our clubs, and for any future work we may be able to do in this way." A permanent committee will be appointed to work with the Leisure Hour Club after the '-lose of the in stitute. TONIGHT at Caleb Mills Hall as an offering of the Civic Music series. Rudolph Ganz. eminent pianist and for several years conductor of the St. Louis Svmphony orchestra, will give a piano recital. The program of Ganz will open with a Chopin group, then going into Haydn. Beethoven, Ganz, Debussy and Liszt. Versatile even as a boy. Ganz stepped before his first audience as a cellist. That was five years before he appeared at the age of 17 with the Municipal Orchestra in Lausanne to play Beethoven s C minor piano concerto. The success of this event determined him to specialize on this in- strument. After further study with noted teachers in Strassbourg and Busoni in Berlin came his official debut as a pianist. At once he established his prestige. Four months after that event Ru dolph Ganz reappeared with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra, this time to conduct his own Symphony in E. An offer to become dean of the piano department of Chicago Musical college followed. There he taught for five years. It w f as in 1906 that this Swiss musician (he was born in Zurich), was first heard in New York. His appearance with the New York Symphony orchestra under Felix Weingartner created a sensation. For the next three years European engagements occupied Ganz. Eight of the following nine seasons found him again giving concerts in this country and Canada, during which tours he played in more than 200 cities. He had firmly established his prestige as a pianist with American audiences when he was invited to BROADCAST IS PLANNED Red Cross Recital to Be Given Over WKBF Friday.
