IDAHO WORLD ^ksday .JUNE 13, 187«. CO. PETTENGILL «fc 37 Park Row, New York, IlUt)«0]Sr &MENET, 21 Park Row, New York, and , E O. P ROWELL & CO.. 40 Pauk Row, New York, the AGENTS for this papor in that city. _ CAHALIN, ESQ,., of Boise City, is our authorized agent for that place and vicinity. authorized agent and County. —— Sticks to his Claims.— Mr. Mike McCullough, one „t our oldest residents among our miners, has ex hibited commendable pluck and energy, aud we hope* J s ee him reap a well-deserved reward for his perse yera'ice and industry. Owning several thousand t of mining ground iu More creek, above Cold riüi , ftaneh, ho has had his ground flooded aud overflowed by freshets every Spring until this year, hast Fall he went to work, single-handed, and exca vated an extensive drain race, and during the Winter au d the entire Spring he was kept constantly at work building substantial dams and embankments to pre vu ut the creek breaking over into and Ailing his pits, por a time things looked dubious, but Mike never V e up, and by constant labor he kept the waters of the creek within bounds, and will now have a good seasou's work. Such perseverance, energy and pluck certainly deserve to be well rewarded, and we hope, a' J in fact are satisfied, that our i'rieud Mike will re size handsome returns from his diggings. If a few of the " growlers " who talk about the camp being «•played out" would pull off their coats and follow McCullough's example, many claims now lying idle would be yielding satisfactory returns. Tue CoMruMENTABY Benefit.—T he complimen tin' benefit tendered Prof. Stanley ou last Saturday evening was a decided success and a most pleasant »flair iu every respect. Some of our musical ami t„ uri kindly volunteered their services on the occa sion, and added greatly to the feast of music provided for the audience. The piauo duets by Miss Ida Klink and Professor Stanley were exceedingly well rendered, and were highly applauded; while Messrs, j Tiucher, Peachy, Runyan aud Cunningham, by their songs mi i iusiruiuenial music proved valuable aids iu the entert ALumeut. Professor Stanley took bis de parture ou list Tuesday, we believe, for San Fran cisco. - Three prominent residents of Placer- , 1 I Decamped. ville, who have for a year or two past been exten-|deuc sively eugaged in mining operations on the east side ! of Wolf Creek, decamped, ou last Saturday, leaving ' tiieir creditors iu the lurch. They appear to have betrayed the confidence of everybody who had any deafiags with them, on that side of the Basin, and their liabilities arc variously estimated at from ten to fifteen thousand dollars. The names of the default- ing parties are U. M. Jackson, Neil McArthur aud — Morrow, and their mining claims were regarded äi among the best iu that sect.on of the camp. Warm Springs. —About the most pleasant place of resort dur.ug the warm weather is at the Warm Syria ;s, where a person can take a bath in hot, cold or tepid water, with a shower if any one wishes it. i Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cooper have everything neatly j arrung I for the accowm «dation of their guests. ! bjth wale and Tenue, aud refreshments can be had ' h desired. The Fourth or .July.—W e have not yet heard of any movement towards a celebration of the Fourth of July, and think, if the people have mot forgotten that there is such a day, it is about time steps were being taken to observe the Fourth in a becoming manner. The time is short in which to make prepa rations, and if we are going to have a gala day of it something must be done at once. Hebe Yet.— Mr. C. Mautz authorizes U3 to state that he still has on hand a fine assortment of custom made boots, which lie will dispose of cheap, and warrants a fit to any one desiring to purchase. H is boots are made of first-class material, aud are not cut in the making. — . ......... - f ■ " *" Commission Merchants. —Messrs. Ellsworth A Lonthan, Forwarding and Commission merchants at Kelton, Utah, renew their advertisement in this is BQ e, and we call especial attention of merchants aud shippers to th»*ir rate of charges since May 1st. Emery A Co., f| i this city, returned a few days ago, and is rustling around as usual. Thanks,—W e return thanks to our old friend Capt. A J. Shepard, agent of Wells, Fargo A Co. at Win ne in ucca, for late telegrams containing news of the Philadelphia nominations. For Ouo Grande.—M r. George Stuck, of this city, left, a few days ago, for Oro Grande, going through w ith Mr. Kempuer's pack-train, intending to be ab sent a couple of weeks. Cleaning Stukew.—T he business men on Main and Montgomery streets have been busy for the past tew days cleaning up the streets, which adds consid erably to the general appearance of our city.. In Town.— Dr. D. U. Belknap arrived from Boise City, a few days ago, aud is on bis road to Banner District with a view of commencing work on his quartz ledge. Lady Visitors.— Mrs. James I. Crutcher and Mrs. Mounce Byrd arrived in our city on last Tuesday, and will remaiû a few weeks visiting friends in this section. Recovering. —We learn that the child of Mr. Peter Moore, which has been dangerously sick at Warm .Springs for the past two weeks, is slowly recovering. Narbow Escape.--M r. Wm. B. Nobje, a member he Buona Vista Bar Company, had quite a narrow escape one day last week. He was hurr iedly cross mg the big cut through the company's claims, aud <ia ie stoppen on the plauk used as a crossing the end slipped off the bank and he was precipitated to the bottom, a distance of about fifteen feet. As he lelt the plauk slip, however, iu order to save himself from falling across the flume at the bottom of the out, he managed to jump so as to laud partially on his leet, but in his descent he stiuck against the flume aud bruised himself very severely, being barely able to hobble around. It was truly a narrow escape, and one that Doc says he is not anxious to repeat. Acknowledgments.—O ur good friend Mr. Theo. V. Mathews, proprietor of the Boise, Idaho and Pla cerville Stage Line, believing that we live in a God forsaken region, where beefsteak aud beaus straight are the prevailing diet, has placed us under repeated obligations to him for several basketsful of nice, fresh vegetables, which ho has sent us by his attent ive and accommodating drivers. Mathews, may your shadow never grow less; we will return the compli ment iu huckleberries aud shokc cherries, when the season comes round. P. O. Bookstore.—T he boys circulated a joke that Silsby, who was across the Basin collecting for Pin ney & Co., had been taken in by Chinese road ageuts \\ ho, contrary to the statute in such case made and provided, had relieved him of lus filthy lucre; but Pinnoy says it ain't so; that Silsby got back all right aud that they are ready to furnish all who thirst after knowledge with reading matter suitablo to their taste, from the scientific productions of noted authors down to "yallow-baok" literature. New Sidewalk.—T he Celestials of Chinatown arc engaged in the construction of a new footwalk, or plankway, across Elk Creek, ut the lower end of town. The old one was fast being covered up by hillings, aud a new one was a necessity. The one they have just built is elevated some ten or fifteen feet above the bed of the stream. Holloway's Pills and Ointment.—F or Scurvy, Leprosy, aud cutaneous diseases they are unrivaled.
