Mr. Scudder's Party
Rev. Frank Scudder, of the
Hawaiian Hoard, is making one
of his periodical tours of Kauai,
which will last a few days more.
He and Mrs. Scudder are accom
panied on Kauai by Rev. Mr. Ki
mura, a noted Evangelist of Japan,
who has the important faculty of
inducing converts in very large
numbers wherever he appear.
New S. A. Head
Captain Feliciauo has arrived
here to take charge of the Salvation
Army work on Kauai, and will be
located at Koloa. The new officer
is a native of Porto Rico, but lias
been engaged in Salvation Army
work in Hawaii for upwards of
twelve years.
Dr. and Mrs. Putnian, Lihue,
entertained a few friends at dinner
Friday evening.

NEW YORK. The Associated
Press has received by wireless from
Berlin a message, which follows.
It was sent from Aix-la-Chapelle
to Berlin for transmission. The
authors, all of whom are well
known American newspaper men,
were originally assigned to Brus
sels and when that city was taken
they were returned t o Aix-la-Chapelle.
from which city they
hnve been endeavoring to reach
London, but without success. The
telegram w:s partly mutilated Lr
interference, and certain words are
missing, but the text here given is
clearly that intended by the
authors:
"In spirit we unite in render
ing sic German artocities ground
less as far as we are able to. After
spending two weeks with and ac
companying the ttoops upward of
100 miles, e are unable to report
a single instance unprovoked. We
are also unable to confirm rumors
of mistreatment of p:isoneis or of
non-combatants with the German
columns. This is true of Louvain,
Brussels. Luneville and Nancy,
while in Prussian hands. We vis
ited Chateau Soldre, Sainbre and
Beaumont without substantiating a
single wanton brutality. Numer
ous investigated reports proved
groundless. Everywhere we have
seen Germans paying for purchases
and respecting property rights, ns
well as according civilian every
consideration.
