Maui Cement Maui cement is on the market as a commercial commodity that will hold its own with any cement made, and the first consignment for Kauai has recently come to McBryde. The capacity of the mill is 150 bar rels a day nA it is being run to its full capacity to keep abreast of its or ders. The principal ingredient of cement Is limestone of which Maui has an unlimited supply in its vast deposits of coral rock. The enterprise undoubtedly has a great future before It because of the advantages which this Tfome product will have over the Imported. Heavy freight charges will be saved, It will be available on short call, and it will be a superior article. We heartily commend the initiative and enterprise of Maul, and congratu late them on their success. And that reminds us that we have vast deposits of lime rock on Kauai, miles of it In the Mahaulepu region east of Koloa. And in addition to being an excellent lime rock It 1b also rich In silica which Is an impor tant ingredient of cement. Farther more it Is of easy access, the quarries being already connected up with the Koloa plantation railway. The Cham ber of Commerce, or some competent individual should look Into the mat ter. As we go to press we learn that there Is a cement famine on, and that none can be had on the inland, in Ho nolulu or elsewhere. STANDARD OIL COMPANY (California) I At the Theatres i One of the first thoughts that occur red to th3 citizens of every community when tha Great World War came to an end, was, what will happen to the boys when they come home. Just as gigantic a task as It was t prepare the men to go over-seas to fight for democracy, so, was It a gigantic tusk to take care of the thousands when they came back to their homes, where Kiey had necessarily to be taken care of. This Idea not only has been the sub ject of the thesis for many great writ ers, but it has been the background idea of one of the best motion pictures that has ever been produced and which has been rlaced on the market by the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation as an Emerson-Loos Paramount special. Mr. Emerson and Miss Loos have written and produced the best "after the war" material that this country has seen in motion pictures, but their latest production "Oh, You Woman!" which has its basic Idea, when the boys come home," is conceeded to be the best satirical-comedy that hns ever been made for the screen. Th2y have taken cold facts and made mciry with them. In every com munity wo have heard of the farmer ette, the girl who became motorman and conductor, some who were post women and the like, but the rub of it all was, "what will happen when the boys come home?" Mr. Emerson and Miss Loos foresaw it all, and made it into a picture that has a comedy ap peal of exceptional value, nnd which will be shown at the Tip Top tonight, Hannniaulu Friday, Kilauea Saturday and Kapaa Sunday. Ford Enthusiasts Ensign and Mrs. Kennedy, officers in charge of the Salvation Army work from Koloa to Kealia, are wearing happy and contented smiles these days. Gone aro the days of old Dobbin and late hours on the road; gone are the days when they could reach Just so far and no farther in their district. Time an l distance have no terrors for them now. This wonderful state of affairs Is all due to that humblo friend of man, Elizabeth Ford. Tho Kennedies wish to thank the many kind friends of the Army who made it possible for them to have this rapid and comfortable means of con veyance. The car enables them to cover much more territory and thus extend their good work to parts that wore impossible to reach with the horse and buggy. Ensign and Mrs. Kennedy are doing splenlid work on Kauai. On Saturday evening?, Sunday afternoons at 2 o clock and at sundown, they hold meet ings at their headquarters In Koloa During the week they aro visiting, the various camps in their district, reach ing as far as Kilauea. :0: Afternoon Tea On Saturday last tho teachers ia the niakai school cottage at M;ika well gave an informal tea to tho wo men of Makaweli.
