llo you know that'"0o(lyeai' Tires are nearly 20
larger than other tires?
For your own satisfaction, compare a Goodyear with
any other tire of the same size. You will be surprised
to see how much larger the Goodyear is, in fact, in
most cases it is as large as the next larger size of the
other tire.
The object of a tire is Resiliency, Traction and
Cushioning. .Fust consider the added advantage of
Goodyear Tires and compare prices to realize the
wonderful value.
s
Goodyear produce L'5 of the tires today. They
aie sold only through Goodyear Service Stations,
eliininating the middle man profit. This large volume
and sales policy enables thmi to sell the best tire
"manufactured at prices no higher than ordinary
tires.
The next time you need a tire, insist upon a Good
year and a Heavy Tourist Tube and you will cut '
down your tire costs as much as 50. Money saved
is money made, and Goodyear will save it for you.

Universities Losing
Their Best Professors
In all the universities throughout tho
mainland thoro has come a crying need
for adequate salaries for tho staff of
professors and teachers. This pro
fession throughout all Its branches has
always been notorious for tho small
and inadequate pay attached to It
With tho present high cost of living
the teaching staffs of tho Universities
aro in very difficult straits with tho
result that hundreds of tho most valu
able of the staffs of Instructors aro go
ing into other lines of business.
The Universities arc faced with tho
most critical period of their cxlstonce.
Their funds aro limited and with tho
salaries they can pay their professors
also necessarily limited they arq losing
the brightest minds they have. This is
in the face of the fact that thcro is no
man more loyal to his profession than
the University 'professor. They aro
simply not getting enough to livo on.
In Europe most of tho Governments
assure to their scientists and men ot
learning an ndequato and proper liv
ing, but this is not done in tho United
States. Hero many ot tho most bril
liant and useful men .command no
higher pay than some of tho lower
paid laborers of lowest usefulness.
The Alumni ot several Universities
aro raising endowment fund tbe,pro
cccds from which will be Used to in
crease tho professors' salaries. At tho
present tlmo Cornell University is on
deavoring to raiso such an amount
that tho income from It will bo able to
incrcaso tho salaries .of hor professors
to a comfortablo salary. This amount
is set at $10,000,000. Already thero
have boon $4,000,000 subscribed. '
The Cornell men on Kauai will do
their part. As a great part, if not tho
greater part, ot the amount already
subscribed has come from people who
aro not University graduates but who
feel the need of conserving the best
teachers to their profession, this art!
cle is written to givo people here somo
knowledge of tho acuto situation.
While thero is no drivo here, and
there will bo no solicitation ot sub
scripttons from Kauai people, for
Kauai has had so many ot theso al
ready, still it is felt that thero may be
thoso .who so believe In higher edu
cation, and are in such sympathy with
tho movement for adequate compensa
tion for tho professor, that they would
like to, and would contribute to the
Cornell Endowment fund it they were
given an opportunity. .
If there any such on 'Kauai, they
may send their contributions to Albert
Horner, Jr., at Kapaa, and. fool sure
that it is for a most useful purpose,
and that its usefulness will be long
lived.

A
COUNTRY
CLUB
FOR KAUA
The suggestion has been made that
we, tho people ot Kauat should hare a
country club. A place where we could
go Tor a game ot golf, or tennis, to the
polo or racing grounds, where wo
could have a dance, or drop in for
lunches or dinners or even .where we
could live while the better halt waB
at the coast.
Amid beautiful scenery it would be
a place ot rest or recreation, or even
inspiration. s
It would bo a place whero we could

with pride. Why not got together.
fKough so small a country, a mere
speck on the great map ot tho world,
Hawaii is one ot the most valuable ot
America's customers. The volume ot
trade between Hawaii and the Main

continent of Australia, and is greater
than that with the whole ot Central
