There were two dissenting votes. The whole matter hinged on wheth er the woman administered the poi son to her children or not. This was not proved by the prosecution, and it could not be, as there were no other witnesses. In her own statement the woman denied giving the drug, al though she took some herself, and wanted to die. About town there was a great deal of sympathy for the prisoner. Then are those who believe she was insane at the time of the attempted suicide. Many people have expressed the opin ion that the government should have sent her back to China at first.
