I I 511 TOILET SOAP 01 I MILLION II A YEARS COAL EXPORTS FUOM THE TOLONIES. Hawaii' Tmdo With Newcastle Near ly 200,000 Tons Sent to Honolulu niul Knhulul. The nnnual shipping review Issued by the Dally Commercial News and Shipping List of Sydney readied Ho nolulu via the Wurrlmoo yesterday. It Is a hnndMoiiie publication of a hundred pages and makes a remarkable showing for the trade of the Colonies. Complete statistics of all exports and Imports during the year ending with June 30 are In the nnnual together with much other valuable statistical matter. Hawaii's principal trade with the Colonies Is In the coal business, Impor tations from Newcastle constituting a considerable part of Honolulu Importa tions. Hawaii Is only a small custom er, however, In the tremendous coal business of the Colonies. During the year, the largest on record for coal ex ports, 1,039,129 tons of coal were ex ported. Of this vast quantity Hawaii received 1S5.0J0 tons, 15.90G of which went to Knhulul and the rest to Hono lulu. This means a lleet of over a bun dred vessels for Honolulu from New castle during the year. Of the Australia coal Industry the Review says that it "gives employment to about 10,000 persons, nnd up to date rather over 80,000.000 tons of coal lias been raised, valued at about 33,000,000 sterling. The production of coal in New South Wales now rnnes between 4, 000,000 nnd 5,000,000 tons per annum. "Ah to strikes there'have been under ground rumblings, but no earthquake. The miners have agitated but no strike lias taken place, and no strike is likely to take place. IJut, we must not close our eyes to the fact that the rate of wages paid to the miners bears, and must necessarily bertr, a relative pro portion to the prices obtained by col liery owners, and that the miners have a fixed impression In their riilnds that more might have been made under past and present conditions. Tlmt is me summation of the position." Hawaii annears three times in me list of the year's marine disasters. The wreck of the William Carson was tne only serious case, the others-being the coal fires n the UarKs Jfortuna arm East African. TURNED INTO OFFICES. Second Floor of the Campbell Being Remodelled.
