Tho trial of Oiler John Wynne, charged with tho murder of Archibald McKiuiion, tho third assistant engineer of the tseamer Hosccrans, was com menced this morning before Judge Dole. The selection of tho jury took two full days and this morning there was only one witness placed on the stand, James Rcld, tho second officer of the Hosccrans at tho time the crime was committed. The examination was conducted very slowly and no informa tion of Importance was elicited from hi tn during tho morning session. In his address to the Jury, telling them what ho expected to show, Deputy U. S. District Attorney W. T. Hawlins made a statement that he would show that Wynne, on tho morning of tho night on which tho murder was com mitted, came ashore and Jajter re turned to his ship where he did some work. The defendant. Wynne, is a man of medium size, with a yellow mustache. He is apparently of a rather low type, having a sloping forehead with runs back at about tho same angle to the back of his head, which Is rather bul let sriaped. No such repre sentation of the volcano has ever be fore been given. The daylight picture of a stream of lava in the crater was especially realistic, and could only have been obtained at great effort. The nignt picture gave a weird;impression j of the moving fire. ' Tho views of a largo party, on their way from the Volcano Houso to the crater, were wonderful.
