Also be objected to changes of Items after they had settled the bill In caucus with him. Chairman Logan of the ways and means committee pleaded not guilty on behalf of that body, saying he haa urged the Board for weeks to settle the Jail nnd other matters, among new ly legislated functions, quickly so as to enable the committee to complete the estimates of expenditures. And, with reierence to th Mayor's state ment that the committee had not fur nished estimates of revenue, he stated tiiat he orally informed tho Board of the probably certain amount of revenue for this half year. Supervisor Quinn ndniitted the loss of time In reference to tho new obliga tions of the Board, but said It was the sanitation and not the police com mittee that kept things back. He thanked the Mayor for not holding up the bill. By unanimous vote the letter was accepted and placed on file, the Super visors evidently appreciating the con ciliatory tone of the message in con trast wth some former communications from the Mayor. There was some exchange of badin age between the Mayor and Board over the plumbing ordinance the lirst reading or which by title was moved by Chairman Aylett or the sanitation committee. Logan stated that the amendments made by Deputy Attorney Milvertou were merely technical, so that It would be unnecessary to read tho document through at that stage. Kane, ns the motion was about to be put, asked that the first section be read. This was done, revealing that the appointment or the inspector wns by the Board or Supervisors. Mayor Fern asked what kind of a job were they trying lo put up on him. The plumbing inspector and appointments to the Board libd Logan confessed he hnd forgotten unit parti cular change In the bill when lie spoku about alterations. The Mayor said the Board had taken him by surprise with the provision In question but confessed Hint lie was aware of the contents of the statute .from the time It was signed by tlio Governor. Logan retorted that then it was the .Mayor who had sprung n surprise on the bound tin making 'appointments when he knew he did not have the power. Ho wns us sly as any of them. The bill passed to publication. A report from the sanitation com mittee covered the draft of an agree ment between the Board of Supervisors and the Queen's Hospital and was adopted unanimously. According to the terms of the agree ment referred to, the Queen's Hospital will admit all Indigent persons at the rate of $1.50 per hospital day of 24 hours on requisition by the City and County Physician, or, in cases of emer gency and in police cases, by the Police Physician. At tho instance of the sanitation committee- the clerk was authorized to advertlso for bids for burial of In digent dcail. Very satisfactory reports were receiv ed from Road Supervisor Wilson on the work of tho garbage service and from Road Overseer Travis of Ewa on his work. Murston Campbell, Superintendent of Public Works, by letter notified the Board of the Territory's acqulstton of land for the widening of Hotel street between Alakeu and Richards streets, requesting the Bourd to move fences and curb back to tho new line. While the Board was considering the dnto for next meeting. Audntor Bick nell precipitated a warm debate by ask lug for information nbout a proposed shifting of ofllce quarters to admit the road department to the municipal Uoor in the Mclntyre building. Quinn contended that the Board had ulieailv decided the matter in a way to cive the road department one room shifting the auditor and the plumbing inspector nnd leaving District Magis trate Andrade an office In the building.
