made Cannon was merely defending
himself. Judge Cooper suspended sen.
tence for thirteen months.

The Hawaiian Dredging Company
on Tuesday signed the contract with
Major Winslow. Corps of Engineers.
U. S. A., representing the war depart,
ment, to dredge tho upper end of tho
harbor, the contract price being In the
neighborhood of $125,000 for the re
moval of 150.000 ynrils of material,
to be dumped ashore at various loca
tions Tho contract was forwarded to
Washington yesterday. Whon tho con.
tract Is approved and cabled news to
that effect Is received by the encln
eer and the company, preparations
will be made to get to work as soon
as possible.

A motion for a new trial of the
case of Don Robinson v tho Honolulu
Rapid Transit & Land Co., has been
submitted by Attorneys Castle& Cath-
cart, who appeared for the defendant
company In this action. Plaintiff
clnlmed $5.08 damages for injuries
raid to have been received by him
through a car owned by tho defendant
company colliding with a transport
wagon that plaintiff was hi charge of.
Tho jury returned a verdict in plain
tiff's favor, and awarded him $548 as
compensation.
