On learning tlio amounts dup them they sadly and silently filed out, re fusing to nccopt tho money which Commissioner Almy tendered them. They will doubtless change their minds Inter In tho day, as there seems lofie no form of redress for them to appeal to, unless they wish to consume In further costs and fees what Is now offered them. Fine Job rnnUnK. star Office. bo threshed out, and a fair and square decision como to. Yesterday's Expedition. Another stage fn the Oahu tunnel scheme was reached yesterday when a party consisting of Governor Frear, Land Commissioner Judd, Hydrog- rapher Martin, Attorney - General Lindsay and Surveyor Wall journeyed over the pall to the foot of the moun tains at Waiahole to Investigate, at first hand, the water supply. The party left the automobile at the road and traveled on foot up the foothills to where most of the water originates. Hydrographer Schultze who is camped on the ground, met the Honolulu people, and he quickly explained and demonstrated tho ex tent of the watershed. The visit of tho omciai led to a clearer perception of the proposed tunnel Idea, and gave the commis sioners a good general Idea of where the water that will ultimately irrigate the sugar fields of Oahu plantation originated. The land on which most of the water rises or falls is government property ,and It Is just that fact that is at present causing a hitch in tho proceedings. The option" that the tunnel company has on the McCand- less watershed expires next Friday, and before that time some decision must be come to on tlie matter. There aro many matters to be con sidered In connection with the tun- nol scheme, and a decision may not bo reached foY a while to como. The' water that originates on the govern ment lnnd eventually passes through the McCandless property, and It is this water that' gives tho govern ment officials the question on which they are to confer. 4- t- 4 f 4- 4- 4- 4- X The Hawaiian Electric Co., Ltd. 4- .
