Burns, who built up the evi dence mound the McNnmara dyna miters, hns gathered evidenco that will cause a sensation when it Is pre sented next week to the Ixrimer In vestigating committee of tho Senate. Detective Burns was employed for about a month by tho Senate Commit tee, and, was later engaged by the In terests lighting to unseat Lorlmer. Tho committee discontinued his ser vices, according to members today, be cause of the almost prohibitive ex pense. It Is reported that the end sought by the antl-Lorimer interests is tho impeachment of a certain witness, who gave evidence in Senator Lori nier's defense relating to tho alleged statement of C. F. Ilines. that a "jack pot" fund of $100,000 was used "to put Lorlmer over." How Confession Was Gotten. Burns is declared to have reported to tho committee that ho was prepared to offer evidenco that one of tho two witnesses who testified In regard to this Incident had confessed ono was paid $1,500 to como to Washington. A phonographic method by which Burns obtained tho confession Is also said to have boon laid before the commit tee. Burns came to Washington last Tuesday and remained until Wednes day night. His report was communi cated to some of tho members of tho committee and later was laid before the committee in executive session. It Is not claimed that the evidence Burns promises to produce is intend ed lo establish whether or not thero was a $100,000 jackpot fund or that Senator Lorinier had knowledgo of It. It affects solely the veracity of a wit ness called by the defense. Lorlmer Still on the Stand. This new evidence will be laid 'be fore the committee after the cross examination of Senator Lorlmer is finished next week.
