examine any Stallion presented for his inspection,
upon such days as he shall apint within his tax

Assembly of the Hawaiian Islands, in the Leg
islature of tlie Kingdom assembled :
Sec. 1. The Minister of the Interior, on be
Imlf of the government of this kingdom, is hereby
authorized to contract with individuals or incor
porated companies for running efficient and sea
worthy steam-ships, of not less than seven hundred
tins each, between Honolulu and San Francisco,
in consideration of which there shall be paid to
said individuals or companies, a sum not exceed
ing twenty-live thousand dollars pcr year, for the
term of two years ; provided, that no such contract
shall be executed without the consent of His Maj
esty the King iu Privy Council, and such contract
shall requ ire, under suitable icnalties, that trips
shall bo regularly run, not less frequently than
once in twenty-ono days from each end of the
route, that the running time shall not be more
than twelve days from port to port, and that the
rate demanded for first class passage shall not ex
ceed seventy-five dollars for every piiscnger ; and
that tho rate of freight upon ordinary merchandise
fr m eitU-r port shall not exceed six dollars .r

of freight on specie from San Francisco shall not
exceed one-half of one per cent, and that the mails
shall be brought from San Francisco free of charge
to the Hawaiian Government or the Post Office

such bonds shall not exceed fifty thousand dollars.
