-Iturlington Hawk-Eye : "They are perfor

securing talent to represent most all tho members
of I'otiphar's family, but they had to md clear

A doctor recently gave the following prescrip

needless to say, entirely recovered.
There, is a man in Newark so close that when
he attend church he occupies the pew farthest
from the pulpit, to save the interest on his money
while tho collectors are passing the plate for con
tributions. A' French journal of science says that the in
habitants of the Azore Islands could smell the
burning of tho great Chicago fire. This is won
derful (adds the Cincinnati Times), but John
Henry sajs that when his wife was in New York,
lost winter,'- he received a telegram from her
which read 05 follows : " You have been drink
ing ; I can smell your breath."
A Hard Man to Please. The following ap
peared in the want column of the Philadelphia
Ledger last Monday :
anted A young man with hard hands, a
good mother, a last year's coat, a this week's
shirt, hair on his face, but not on his teeth,
whose corns are on his feet, patches all in front,
ambition is greater than bis expectation, who was
never better or smarter than now, and never
manager, superintendent or chief of anything,
or considered unusually brilliant by anybody.

This is the" way " A Boy " tells his little story
in the S. F. Post :
My uncle Ned ears once in Injy he was walk
ing on the banks of a river with his new found
ling dog, and a bear was swimming across to the
other side. When the dog see something in the
water he went to fetch it out, like he had been
tot, without thinking partickler wot it mite
be, bat when he had swum, the dog had, up real
close, the bear give him a look over her shoulder,
and- smiled, . like sayin its offle good of you to
take such a frcnly intres in a entire stranger,
wen we git to the other side I'llost you to dinner
with me and weel have dog for dinner. But
wen the dog seen how it was he wreckelectcd
another engagement, wich he had forgot, and
Cncla Ned says there wasent never any body
tried eo hard for to be punctual as that dog did.
The Bridal Chamber. He was tall and- awk
ward, and she was short and bashful, but both
wore a nervous aspect of exceeding great joy.
They entered a hotel in Chicago, and after he
had registered his name "and lady," he said to
the clerk :
'See here, mister, mo and my wife have just
been spliced, and I am goiDg to show Amanda
Chicago if it takes a mule a day. Now give us
one of them rooms like the Temple of Solomon,
you know."
The clerk called a hall boy and said .
"Show this gentleman to the bridal chamber."
At this direction the tall rustic became in
stantly excited.
"Not by a domed sight! -Ye 6hiny-haired,
biled-shirtcd, doHar:brcast-pinned, grinning
monkey, you can't play that on me ! If I am
from the country, ye don't catch me and my
wife sleepmg in your old harness-room. " And
tbey left the hotel.
A Forgetful Man. His wife sent him up
town for "sumthin or ruther'? early in the
evening. On the way he met a friend and they
epent an hour in an animated dispute as to wheth
er Haves or Tilden had the best chance for an
election, and when he left his friend at the
corner of Fourth and Vine streets, bo had entire
ly forgotten what Maria had sent him after. It
was iu vain that ho tried to think up hi forgot
ten errand. For three long weary hou.s he
wandered around from ealoon to saloon, trying to
stimulate his unreliable brain and prick up his
memory Twas no use. The more lie stimulat
ed the more he didn't remember. He hated to
go home and acknowledge as much to. his wife,
and so he just dropped in on his friends to gath
er a little sympathy. After he had managed to
scrape considerable of the article together, and
just as the clock on St. Xavier Church was chim
in the midnight hour, the telegraph editor
opened a dispatch and remarked that the Associ
ated Press announced the death of Dr. , the
famous physicain of .
"By the jumping Juniper Jupiter, 1 remember
now," said the visitor, rising slowly from his
seat and turning as pale as a cholera patient ; "I
remember now. My wife had the cramp colic
and sent me to bring the doctor ! D n poli
tics!" And he shot out of the door after the
doctor without etaying to hear what the outlook
was in New York. Cincinnati Enquirer.
