The stream is smooth, the sky is clear,
You need not come to measure
The crystal deeps through which I steer,
W pilot shall be Pleasure !

belonged to a club of wild fellowB, most of whom
took an infamous course of life. One day, when

the judge remembered to have been one of his

thinking the prisoner did not know him, asked
what had become of his old associates. The cul

11b. Parker as a Good Samaritan. Mr.
Farker made a large number of calls Monday,
and late in the evening was playing a temporary
engagement as the faypothenuse of a triangle, of
whicn the pavement and a lamp post were the
base and perpendicular, when he was approached
by a poor shivering wretch a Tery shadow
who said with a piteous whine:
"Can I speak to you, Boss?"

' Could I ask you; sir; to give me a few pen

Wanted a Farm. A Detroit real estate agent
was watted on yesterday by a tall man with a
weed on his bat, who said he bad the cash to pay
for a farm provided be could get one to suit.
The agent smiled him to a seat, and brought out
his register of descriptions. He had several farms
registered on bis books, and he had too doubt
that be could suit the would be purchaser.
The stranger remarked " What I want is a
Carta of about 300 acres." "I'Te got it," repli
ed the dealer. "I'd like a form with a lake on
t." "Here she is here's a farm with a lake
aactly in the centre." " And I want a big
aatural cavern in one of the hills." "Here you
ire. There's a cave on this farm which can't
ie beat." The stranger drew a long breath, and
went on: I want a farm of 300 acres, but 100
acres must be marsh land." "Here she is,"
was the ready reply ; just 300 acres In the farm
and just 100 in marsh land. " I must have a
" waterfall 26ft. high on the farm," continued the
stranger. " Here you are. This farm has a natur
al waterfall of 25ft. llin. I don't suppose an
inch more or less, on a waterfall amounts to
much." Well, no; but I want a wind-mill on
I on one of the hills." 44 That was put up last year
i was the calm reply. It was some time before
the stranger thought of anything else, but
finally said "There must be a Baptist church

be a brick church." 44 So it is." 44 Has it
